Works! Morning congestion gone!
Just had the popcorn ceiling removed and it left dust on everything, everywhere. Not sure if that's the cause, but have been having hives on face. After my mother saying maybe I should get an air purifier, I saw one at my hair salon and looked into the one my stylist had. After the deep dive into air purifiers reasonably priced on the market, came up with this one instead based on mutiple reviews from Amazon and elsewhere. they also sell a smaller unit for smaller spaces, and another unit like this one without the pet filter for those watching their dollars. I have not installed the pet filter yet, but will when move to my mother's where there is a cat and it's an old musty house, and will update review. Right now, I'm using it in a 1000 sq ft condo. I've kept it in the middle of the open space dining/living room and have it running all the time for the past week. I know it is working/responding because it is usually in low or sleep mode with the blue light, but when I cook, shower, open a door or window it revs up to medium/yellow light and rarely high/red. As i've been cleaning popcorn dust areas, it also notices and ups it's filtering. I have it in auto mode so usually hardly notice when it's on in low mode or sleep mode. The noise level at the higher modes is fine, not super loud or annoying and I am pretty noise sensitive. The best unexpected benefit is even though it's not in my bedroom, I'm not waking up stuffy and coughing which is my norm (sucks to be me then!) That is sort of miraculous, so I can only assume that since I have it on continuously, it is cleaning the air throughout the condo as I haven't changed anything else, nor in my diet. It is a fairly large unit, though not too heavy to move from room to room as I've done once. When I had it in my bedroom one night, I put it in Sleep mode and noise is nothing, the only light is the "Sleep" mode light (I'm also very light sensitve, of course!), so I put a small piece of cardboard over it, just resting on it, and that took care of the light. I didn't notice any affects from having it in my bedroom early on, moved it back out to the living area ever since and that's why I'm so surprised it seems to help the whole place even in other rooms after being continuously on for days. I've also tried the PlasmaWave feature which is supposed to help it filter better, and there has been discussion on the internet about any detrimental effects of ions, with Winix and others explaining that this type doesn't produce the detrimental ions. At this point, I haven't noticed any difference negatively from having it on, but it is easy to turn it off if you have concerns. I am very pleased and think for the price and benefits it's more than worth it!

Very effective after Wildfires and with Pet Dander/dust.
It's large so effective in big rooms. It's sensitive and uses a large but discrete light to show when air is less than optimal. Ours goes from blue (good aq) to yellow when the cat walks by it or uses the litter box. We have found that ours doubles as a pleasant nightlight. I find it amazing and I've had no sore throat since we set it up 5 days ago. I can't believe the difference already. I purchased two as I live in a two-story farm home. I have foster critters galore. It is amazingly quiet!! I do not use the sleep mode as I prefer a little soft brown noise at night. It's just...so quiet!! I'm as surprised at that as I am how effective it is.Most importantly, we experienced the horrid wildfires in Oregon this September and I was using the homemade box fan filtering set up at first in a pinch. Air quality was off the chart as you would expect. It's been 7 weeks since the fire hit. We've struggled with odd respiratory/throat and a random sharp dry cough since. These symptoms no longer exist when I'm at home. But do at work which tells me these machines are doing something remarkable. I would highly recommend spending the $$ on these. It's well worth it to us so far. Amazing really. I do use the first thin pet filter *which they include 12 of these inside the box when shipped*. There are a total of 4 different types of filters in the machine once you set it up, which is EASY. All included to get you through the first two or three months at least. Two are washable (1-semi think carbon, 1-thin nylon{?} mesh), the paper filter is thick and very effective and will need to be replaced but it says they can last up to 12 months which mine will obviously not do. I'll update the post when it. needs changed. Finally, The paper thin fibrous filter for pet hair/dander filter which as stated above, comes with 12 of these and I'm sure I will go through these fast. No matter. It's totally worth it so far! Just checked filter two that is in the busiest part of the house. ALL filters still look like new almost a week later. YaY! These also have a 'dust' sensor which is nice.

Quiet and effective BUT NO WARRANTY!!!
We live with two dogs. Both shed a LOT! One is part hound with a strong odor. Our vet uses this brand in his exam rooms, but we chose this model for the added pet dander filter (it comes with a dozen). The extra filter takes a few minutes to install, but it works! We use this in our +/- 280 sq ft family & TV room. The noise level is unobtrusive and the unit has made a big difference in reducing the odors and allergens. RecommendedUPDATE:We purchased this unit in April 2023 and were very pleased with its performance until December 22, at which point it stopped working. It displayed two blinking fan speed lights and could not be restarted. We reported the problem to Winix and were notified by tech support that it must be returned for repair.Several hours later I received the following notice from Winix:"Thank you for reaching out to Winix America. We do apologize the Winix Limited Manufacturer warranty does not apply to units purchased by third party sellers. The proof of purchase provided notate that this item was sold by S&E Mart through Amazon. We recommend reaching out to the seller for further assistance.Best Regards,Winix Customer Service"The Amazon ad did NOT indicate that the item offered was not eligible for the manufacturer's warranty!

Measures up to more expensive units
I have terrible year-round allergies. I keep this running 24/7 in my bedroom. Keeps dust to a point where I don’t even dust my room. It automatically quiets at night. The plasma wave indicator is very sensitive, so I know it’s working. Definitely helps keep allergens away and I rarely have sleeping issues anymore. I can even keep my window open at cooler times of the year. That’s something I was never able to do before. The filter lasted over a year with changing out the pre-filter. Makes the annual filter replacement cost worthwhile.
