Drawing the Landscape, 2nd Edition

I usually sell back my textbooks...
... but I intend to keep this one! This was a required book for a Landscape Architecture course at UC Davis and I'm so glad I bought it! Not only is Chip a wonderful artist, teacher, and a fun guy to be around, but he also definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to drawing landscapes and I found the book extremely useful. If you're interested in technical drawing and drafting or the landscape, or you're just really interested in drawing it for your own purposes, then this book is a good buy

Not worth the money!
Not many art and drawing books disappoint me, but this one did. First of all, the real meat of the book doesn't even start until half way through. The book contains lots of drawings from the "old masters" which we have all seen everywhere a thousand times. I thought I was buying a professional level instruction book, but ended up with a compilation of beginner level material that teaches very little new or advanced information. I don't know what the print version looks, like but the Kindle version isn't even in color until the end! Nothing like seeing a landscape drawing described as pen & ink...with watercolor, but its all gray-scale or worse. I'm just disappointed I let this book sit on my tablet beyond the return period for Kindle books before I figured out I wasted $60.

Don't judge this book by it's cover
I had forgotten that Chip Sullivan's style is more "underground comic" style and not the watercolor seen on the cover. Once I got over that disappointment the book is somewhat helpful, but not what I had hoped. If you want to learn how to color your sharpie marker landscape sketches this book is for you.

Excellent book!
Chip Sullivan has created an excellent book that not only describes how to draw landscapes, but also steps to develop the skills in making your drawings readable and beautiful. He focuses on watercolor as a medium, which is excellent for landscape drawings. If you're interested in drawing well and keep an artistic flare to your work, then definitely pick up this book.

Art book, not a technical guide.
I returned this book, as it is more of an art guide than a technical landscape architectural resource.
