Beginner's Guide to Digital Painting: Characters

Awesome book. I'm a digital artist and this book is really helpful to me. This is the best book I can recommend for beginner's.

Very useful to quickly boost a beginner digital artist's output.

OMG I love this book! It is an absolute favorite. What I really like are the several character design examples throughout the book. It takes you from beginning steps to techniques that are still a little beyond me - but that is OK - because I am growing as an artist with this book. If you are looking into character design - this is my #1 pick and suggestion.

This book is absolutely incredible. I am new to art but not rubbish at it. No expert either but I am told I’m good. This book was bought to advance my skills. Somebody commented here about it not being very helpful as it doesn’t show you how to actually draw. Well....actually it does teach you a lot. It shows you all the essentials you need to know about in order to complete drawings using photoshop (or Procreate in my case which is similar and for iPad). It doesn’t teach you how to be a world class artist because that’s not something you can teach. It’ll come in time if you dedicate time every day to developing your skills. This book helps. It has tutorials and some great examples of other people’s work. It’s not written by one (self indulgent) author/artist as somebody else said. It is written with input from several artists with similar styles but different experiences. There’s nothing egotistical at all. They are showing off their great work in order to help you and I !! It helps you understand how body’s are formed and skin tones along with character “design” in the written sense (like thinking about it’s characteristics etc). I recommend this book a lot. It’s a good mix of words to photo ratio. Perfect. Get it!Oh. The book cover is great. And the layout makes it a good easy-on-the-eye-read. Quality of paper is great too. It just looks, reads and feels amazing.

Ottimo libro per chi desidera imparare le tecniche usate da alcuni professionisti del settore per quanto riguarda il character design. Il libro si presenta molto bene con un'ottima scelta dei materiali.Spiega brevemente alcuni concetti base sulla luce, i thumbnail e le proporzioni e mostra i processi step by step usati dai vari professionisti (che sono diversi per ognuno!).Consiglio l'approfondimento dei vari concetti spiegati molto brevemente con altri ottimi libri come:Figure Drawing Design and Invention di Michael HamptonColor and Light A Guide for the Realist Painter di James GurneyCordiali saluti.
