I bought two of these units to monitor a set of garage doors in a concrete garage, accessed through a 25 foot long tunnel walkway from my basement. At first, I tried to monitor the doors with the much cheaper Chamberlain Universal Garage Door Monitors. I completely wasted my money on those,.....they have no usable range, are battery powered, stop working in cold and have no ability to close the door if it broadcasts to you "Hey,....your door is open!"I then bought two Garage Hawk units that are "linked" together to sent messages over my home wiring with Insteon Technology. They work great, are reliable and allow me to close the door if it says it is open. I have one receiver up one floor in my 1st floor kitchen, and one receiver up TWO FLOORS in my bedroom. I installed the first unit completely, and was tired so I quit for the day. When I tested my installation, my new unit didn't work. The next morning I called the company and they explained to me that it shouldn't have worked,.....because I had them programmed linked together! The unit was so smart it was looking for the other gargae door unit I hadn't installed yet, and therefore could NOT determine the status of my doors, and that is why I got the flashing red light when I expected a green. The next weekend I put the second unit in, and the whole system works like a charm. The customer help was wonderful, and they even called me back a few weeks later to make sure I didn't have a problem.These units are as good as you are ever going to find. They look and feel quality. The Insteon Technology also communicates with X10 devices. My Garage Hawk came with (1) X10 device which I have turn on a lamp when my garage door is open. The instructions are good. Buy this product with confidence, and don't waste your money on the battery powered Chamberlain garbage.
