Soul search
It was a pretty cool book. Not a big fan of Majik and her limbo hell powers. Book dealt with the X-Mem being thrown into Limbo and fighting a demons who are very powerful.. Get rid of one another one wants to take there place. Majik back from dead. Eh Also dealt with the people who made X-23 getting help from the Purifiers to destroy the mutant race. That was a better story. Plus the conflicts in the new X-Men personal lives and how to lead a team. New members and learning more about there powers and trust issues. That was the core of the book.

From the beginning
I've been read Ilyanna's story from her creation and find her the most tragic, interesting and fascinating of the X characters.

A disappointing ending
This is the last of the New X-Men collected editions and it was easily my least favorite. The first part of the book is really good. A story about Mercury and X-23 that digs into the characters in similar ways as the earlier editions. Then the school gets pulled into Limbo and the story that follows is just okay at best. It had some really good parts and some really mediocre parts. It wasn't bad. The only reason I'm rating this at three instead of two is because the first part of the book is so good though. Otherwise I'd probably rate the book at a 2.5. Oh well, hopefully we get more of these characters in the new X-Men era, which is off to a great start so far.

Skippable
It starts off good with the 4 part story "Mercury Rising" but then the quality falls off a cliff. It's hard to believe that the same writers were still on the book. Issues 37-42 are completely skippable. The art just gets worse and worse until issue #42 which is like a sloppy sketchbook where all of the characters look like little kids. Just awful. But worst of all is the storyline "Quest of Magik." Before "Mercury Rising" we had the New X-Men fighting the religious bigot Reverend William Stryker. This was a very good criticism of organized religion and the fantasy stories it is based upon. But then for some reason the writers take us to Hell and Limbo (crazy religious concepts that we know aren't real). So I guess Stryker was right? Apparently "souls" and "demons" actually do exist. X-Men is not Dr. Strange. I don't read books about magic because it's silly. I like the super science of the X-Men books much better. It's bad enough that some of the mutant powers are unpredictable and stretch believability but adding in all of this Bible stuff was too much. Add in the terrible cartoony artwork and you have a trade paperback that I cannot recommend. I got it for X-23 and she's barely in it.

A MAGIKAL QUEST
A fantastic graphic novel about marvel's mighty mutants, the artwork is amazing, the stories are fantastic, 100% well worth adding to any X-Men and/or Marvel graphic novel collection
