An obvious must have for anyone who is in the know.
This book was in perfect condition and exactly what I needed. I got another one as a gift and took it to Office Max to be spiral bound. The completely ruined it. They weren't paying attention and mispunched the first 50 pages or so. Then offered me $6 to compensate me. LOL. I told them that wasn't acceptable and made them pay me cash for the book.So I ordered it here and got it fast. This is the holy grail of Step 3. Don't take my word for it, use google. Of course, nothing is a sole resource for any test but this is a great place to start. Just google it and read the other reviews and don't take my word for it. This book is a must have for Step 3. Buy it now and thank me later.

MTB 2nd edition + New Basic Science additions = 3rd edition
Just received the book and read the ID chapter. So, the only difference, I can see, between this 3rd edition and the 2nd edition is the addition of Basic Science information, which is displayed in purple boxes under the topics where it is relevant. From scanning through the rest of the chapters, it seems like ID has the most amount of new basic science information, with other chapters having their fair share of new tid-bits added as well. Now, how helpful and useful the basic science information is, I won't know until the questions are started, but for the most part, the information looks as high yield as possible without going overboard reviewing ALL your step 1 stuff.Another thing to keep in mind is that the "new" Step 3 exam is only adding about of 3-5% of basic sciences, so I don't think it can really make or break your score, and since for most of us, a passing score is enough, I think the 2nd edition of this book plus a qbank would suffice as well.Other than that, all the other information seems unchanged.I will update this periodically as I keep using it in conjunction with a Qbank and see how useful the updated information is.Best of luck Studying!***UPDATE 12/6/2014***Surprised there is no basic science added to the Emergency Medicine/Toxicology section. I started a qbank today and from the questions I got from EM/Tox, I figured there should be information on the MOA of some of the toxicities, like for example in Acetaminophen toxicity, glutathione is needed to inactivate the toxic metabolite NAPQI, or how n-acetyl-cysteine acts as a glutathione substrate to help inactivate NAPQI... and same can be said about any of the other toxicities listed in the section which I thought were pretty commonly seen and tested. Maybe their not as important for the exam??? Not sure but thought i'd point it out.

It is just like the step 2 CK book which makes me happy ...
It is just like the step 2 CK book which makes me happy because I borrowed a friend's Step 2 CK book and now I know I only have to read this one and I feel like I'm studying for both tests. Conrad never lets me down. I get bored reading and he makes it easy to read so I get a lot done in a short period of time.

You need more than this book to pass step 3!!
This book is too synthesized, lack A LOT of crucial information for step 3 that you can only learn (by far) with the usmleworld qbank practice questiions. Sometimes this books make you feel you are preparing fro step 2 CK rather than step 3. Limiting a treatment plan for a ABPA to "Corticosteroids"; in one line is not enough for step 3. We need NAME of the drug (for both CCS and questions), ROUTE of administration, FREQUENCY and WHEN TO STOP the drug. That's step 3!! Knowledge wise, step 2 CK and step 3 are very similar, but the projection is different. Step 3 need more than just the clinical knowledge but how you actually handle the patient in the outpatient and inpatient setting. It seems like the author got too comfortable synthesizing, making jokes and being the funny guy. Sometimes you feel like you are having a conversation with Fisher rather than learning something. I would say that this book is the worst f the MTB series. Even thought still some quite uselful for step 3, I wouldn't recommend to limit your preparation only to this book. Compliment with UWorld qbank practice questions, they will compensate the content this book is lacking big time! I just took the test I can tell the difference. UWorld is the key for this test!

I got the book pretty much immediately
I got the book pretty much immediately, and was hesitant to keep it at first, but honestly with all the money that is spent on medical school, an extra $40 on this book is worth it. The OBGYN section is better than that of MTB step 2. Its not necessary for CK but If you need it anyway, might as well get it. You will get the book super fast!

It has been the best review book I have used so far
I am using this for USMLE step 2 CK. It has been the best review book I have used so far. I love the integration of the Step 1 and Step 2 material. It is very simple to read and great outline. I prefer this over MTB Step 2

Good for the MCCEE
This review will talk about the book in regards to the MCCEE exam, not the USMLE step 3 exam.Went over this a couple times for the MCCEE. This book has a lot of good clinical info. that comes up in exams. I prefer this to MTB step 2 for the EE, because it has more management based information. The MCCEE does not focus on basic science too. The only problem I might have, is that I find it hard to retain information when it's concise, and you might need to read a chapter more than once. Anyways, if you're doing your mccee, I recommend this, and more importantly Family practice board review by Mark Grabber, Jason Wilbur, which is another great book that should be your primary source for the exam. Get it if you're good at memorizing. Most of it is good, surgery might not be enough though.
