A very good read.
My professional career as an engineer, supervisor and manager has led me to an unlikely (but incredibly fortunate) place where I work closely with members of the wild-land firefighting community. I am extremely impressed with how solid, passionate and effective many of these folks are, I'll never have a "boots on the ground" firefighting background, so I picked up Shawna's book mainly as research to better understand the mentality of this tight knit community. I was pleasantly surprised to find my self engaged in the story, especiallyher descriptions and stories of growing up in a working class family (like me). I definitely recommend this book.

Wildland Firefighter Foundation endorses No Grass
Heartfelt, incredible, humorous, intelligent, profound and real all blend together to take you on a journey through the eyes, years and heart of Legs. Her story will captivate you, produce laughter and tears, and take you into the world of wildland firefighting; the drama, love, passion and pain that very few outside of the firefighting community know. Legs is a physically petite woman with a personality and and an energy for life that is bigger than all outdoors. Once you open No Grass, you will not want to put it down as you travel with Legs on a journey.... that you will never want to forget. On behalf of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation of Boise, Idaho, I recommend the book "No Grass" by Shawna Legarza. If you have the privilege of hearing her speak, don't miss a word that she has share.Sherrie KvammeDirector of Family Outreach[...]

Something different
Something different, a woman's story of wild fire fighting. OK, there are spelling errors and maybe a bit of editing might have helped, but I still found it an engaging, hard to put down, story. I found this book interesting to read because it starts off with Shawna’s early life, growing up on farms in rural America, and then looks at wild fire fighting from a) a crew leader’s perspective, and b) from a woman’s perspective. Plus her personal tragedy at the end strikes a chord with me.Well worth the price of the book.

Good book
The book was an easy read, very easy for me to get into. I was a Wildland FF in Nevada and Alaska for years and knew Marc, back in the day. A good man, so sorry for your loss, Legz. I also have been affected by suicide, the pain runs deep.It took guts to write such a book and lay it all out.... She obviously has guts. Bless all the survivors. Peace.

Don't let the grammatical errors fool you
This is an amazing book. I read it over a year ago and it has still stayed with me. It is self published, I think, but please don't let the lack of an editor stop you from reading it. It's am amazing book with an exceptional timeline and heartfelt, honest writing. Shawna is an amazing woman.

What an imcredible lady
I read other reviews about this book before I bought it... I agree that the writing is pretty poor, but the content is great! I had the opportunity to hear Shawna speak recently and this book doesn't even come close to how awesome this lady is. She's had an impressive career and also found time to get her doctorate. What a great role model for women in this profession.
