Absorbing True Story - You'll love it
I loved this box set, it's really absorbing and I personally found it hard to believe that this was a real and true family story. It starts off pretty slow but stick with it and you'll soon see that it will start to climb and climb and climb into this intriguing story about all the different things going on with each individual in this one family, the very good, the very bad, the desperately sad, and the downright ugly. There are more twists and turns than a tightly squashed coiled spring that will keep you captivated and totally immersed throughout. Very well worth the watch but impossible to binge watch as each episode is about an hour long and I guarantee you, you won't even want to turn it off to go to bed. I was a bit shocked about some of the revelations of some individuals especially about what had happened to them before the story even began but I was born just after WW2 and aside of my german PoW camps knowledge, had no real idea about what actually went on in Japanese PoW camps, I confess that my mouth dropped open in shock a couple of times. Very highly recommended.

A Place to Call Home - brilliant very highly recommend this wonderful series
Two friends of mine had told me about this Australian series, and how brilliant it was. They started showing it on the Drama channel series 1. I missed the first three episodes, as I was in the USA. On my return I found that those three were not on IPlayer, but unavailable. My friend told me what we had missed and I picked up the story on episode 4. There were two episodes o. Every Saturday lunchtime which I taped. By the time episodes 10 and 11 were on, and the final episodes 12 and 13 of series 1 was on the following week, I am trying to find out if series 2 follows on. Imagine our horror when I realised they were not showing series 2. I then bought this box set. We watched all six series in a week. We even found ourselves over Easter sitting down 2.30 we called it the matinees, watched 4 episodes, half hour break for the news. Back on 7 pm until 11.45pm. This is without a doubt the best series that has ever been on TV. It matched the original Roots. It is completely addictive viewing. Absolutely brilliant. It will be the nest box set you will ever get.

That we always can fight for the better...
Absolute, for my taste, true and fantastic... The low profile of the main actress hides a steely character, honesty, kindness which can change to the best everyone in her new country. I strongly recomend it to all who believe that honesty has not left us...

Outstanding and compelling.
Outstanding in all ways, esp the various rivetting storylines, the acting, the dialogue. The actress who plays Sister Adams, the convert to Judaism, is amazing. We've binged on this series every night for the past few weeks, and find it compulsive viewing. The last time we did this with a series was Breaking Bad a few years ago. Why has the BBC not been able to produce a series like APTCH. Fair dinckum, if that's the correct expression, to the Aussies for having the guts to deal with what a Jewish female survivor of the death camps went through after the war; and with racism,anti-Semitism, homophobia, sexual violence towards women, as well as with the living casualties of war, whites and Aboriginies alike.

The lives of a wealthy Australian family in the 1950s
I bought this for my wife as a Christmas present and we watched it together over the last few weeks. We were both really impressed with the story which begins in the early 1950s; the war had an impact on the family and some have difficulties dealing with the after effects. Overall it has a very positive feel about it and depicts the 50s as a time of change in attitudes towards single mothers, black aboriginals and homosexuals. There is some violence but nothing excessive and always relevant to the plot. If you want a really good story to immerse yourself in I highly recommend it.

AN OUTSTANDING SERIES THAT DESERVES 6 STARS
This is a superlative series that takes place in post WWII Australia in 1953. The central nucleus characters comprise the very wealthy upper class family of the Blighs: A domineering force of nature widowed grandmother still married to the old ways; a level headed handsome elder widowed son, George, who successfully runs the vast family estate and wool business; a handsome grandson forced to repress his homosexual leanings who is married to the sister of a man he once loved; an attractive granddaughter who is in love with a young Catholic Italian man whose family lives and works adjacent to the Blighs on land that they were given by the Blighs. Into this world comes Sarah, an attractive strong willed and highly competent medic who returns to Australia as a survivor of the Nazis twenty years after leaving the country. She converted to Judaism due to the fact that she married a Jewish Frenchman and worked with him in the French Resistance. Now widowed thanks to the Nazis, she gains employment in the local hospital, catches the eye of widower George, the animosity of his controlling mother, and adds to the emotional barometer of this complex mix which all too often reaches a fever pitch. The writing is impeccable, the acting is uniformly excellent and credible, and the six seasons of story telling are riveting. There are more twists and turns and unexpected surprises than a Fun House or House of Horrors, depending upon one's point of view. What we have is a universal clash of Class, Religion, and Sex, with love, hate, gossip, and betrayal thrown in. While some may appear as if trapped in amber, others attempt to adjust to a rapidly changing world that has just begun to enter the Atomic Age and the world of television. All of this makes Dynasty look like child's play; and while the viewer may be shocked by what existed in the Australia of 1953, many things have not changed world-wide as much as one might think in the 66 years that have passed since then. The DVDs are excellent and the complete series is a genuine bargain. Reruns on TV have been drastically cut. Binge watch and be sure to strap on your safety belts. "It's going to be a bumpy ride" - but well worth it!ADDITIONAL ALERT: Because the original two seasons were so successful, an additional 4 seasons were eventually tagged on. A new slightly revised but key ending to Season 2 gave new grist to this mill and made it that much more outstanding. Characters already present along with the addition of new characters fleshed out the story of the Blighs even more while simultaneously giving more depth to all the characters. The time period covered was extended as well. To say any more would be to give too much away. There was now much more time to develop multiple story lines. This will also keep the viewer on the edge of his/her seat. The acting is so uniformly excellent and events so unpredictable that this entire series appears more and more like real life as opposed to being a lengthy work of fiction. It's also worth watching various segments more than once.

Possibly the best Ausstralian series I've ever watched. Bevan Lee masterfully pulled in magical forces in creating this - his tapestry of human emotion and intrigue. Truly a gifted maestro. Well done!
