tedious
pedestrian and perfunctory. the knowledge is flimsy and long list of cocktails is uninspiring. I have no idea why this receives such praise. bypass this book - there are far more enlightened ones on the market.

Never be lost again
I am so glad to have this book back. I originally came across it in the late 90's whilst working in a cocktail bar in the French Alps. It was of great use to me during that time and inspired a variety of menu's and drinking sessions.Schumann encapsulates the cocktail philosophy brilliantly. Yes there are many great recipes in there, with his stereotypical German attention to detail you can't go too far wrong. However the real point of the book is to give enough information (and inspiration) to the reader, so that they can then have the knowledge and confidence to develop their own drinks and mixes. This is surely what cocktails are all about. This book is well suited for anyone interested in `the artistry of mixing drinks', it does exactly what it says on the tin!!

THIS IS IT!!!!
This is THE cocktail reference book! It is both stylish and informative; it'll look good on your shelves, and it will be of incredible use to you whether or not you are a profesional. Unlike the "Savoy Cocktail Book", the recipes are easy to understand, and the format is very user friendly -I'm not sure about his recipe for a "cardinal" though. Sadly, it lacks completely on the history of the classics. The rest of the book is dedicated to an incredibly accurate description of all the major spirits. In other words, it is like all the other books, but a lot more accurate, a lot more consise, and looks a hell of a lot better....Go get it!!
