Narex Czech Steel Premium 4 pc set 6 (1/4), 12 (1/2), 20 (3/4), 26 (1) mm Chisels w/Hornbeam Handles

Nicely made, durable. They come sharp, but it's still a good idea to resharpen a microbevel on them so they cut through hardwoods like butter. It's not their "top of the line set", but they still work great for my needs and they are less money which is even better.

Very well balanced, extremely light weight, and feel great in my hand. Takes about thirty minutes to get a good edge on all of them straight out of the box. Got these for my birthday and are hands down greater than my old Stanley Fatmax chisels. Edges stay sharp and don't seem to chip as easily as my Stanley's. My Stanley chisels always chipped, even in lighter work. I'll keep the old Stanley's for rougher work and use these for finer woodworking projects.11/29/2015 Update:I've had the chisels since August of 2015, sharpened up really nice and have worked great. Went to use one of the chisels on a project this weekend and noticed the brass collar where the handle and the blade meet was cracked. Checked the other 3 and they were cracked as well. My shop is not climate controlled so wondering if the wood "swelled" and caused the collar to crack. The chisel still works just fine for now but not sure how much longer they will last. Sent an e-mail to Narex notifying them of the problem. Now I'll get to see what kind of customer service they have. I will update when the problem is resolved. See photo1/1/2016 Update:Narex responded to me within a week of my 11/29/2015 update. Narex also put me in touch with Taylor Toolworks, the company that actually distributes the tool through Amazon. According to Narex and Taylor Toolworks, Narex received some defective ferrules from a particular vendor they were using. Narex has corrected this problem with the chisels and has provided a full refund. Definitely recommend Narex and Taylor Toolworks as two trusted companies to safely purchase tools from. The Narex chisels are excellent quality chisels and would recommend them to anyone wanting to get a quality tool without breaking the bank.

Quality seems to be good and price seemed reasonable without going for high end. With that being said, the box they are packaged in is garbage and they came out of the cardboard holders in transit. For the money, I didn't expect to see them all lose and banging around in the box. There is a sticky coating on them for what I would assume corrosion protection, however, do not wipe off with anything aggressive as it will remove the lettering on the chisel. Again, for the money I would have expected a laser etching or at least something that was more durable than the corrosion protection. Overall, if the quality is there these are minor issues.

I am a newbie to woodwork, but not to quality tools. Took me probably 2 hours/chisel to remove the polish and flatten the backs. After the flattening and sharpening process I did a little comparison to a lesser set of chisels I had purchased last year. Seems the cheaper set needs a daily sharpening whereas the Narex don’t. I did finely wear them done on some red oak but that was after 6 4” x 2” mortise and tenons 4 oversized dovetails on cedar. 2 of them I dropped! Had to restate the tips. Terrible experience. The bigger handles fit my hand a lot better than the others.I wish the box was something you could store them in. that’s my only complaint. The crappy box, but I wanted quality chisels and that’s what I got! Highly recommend these bad boys along with the Narex mortising chisel. Great product

I know you can buy cheaper and more expensive. After you get them properly, and correctly setup. I used my first one, years ago in school and they hold a sharp edge for a long time.

The box they came in did not make it intact and these fine tools deserve better.They where jangling around in there.Two took some time flatteningOne came flat.They all sharpen easily and go as sharp as a Mora knief with no effort.In fact I described these Narex chisels to my friends as the Mora of chisels.This is a compliment. Big bang for the buck.In pine they cut the hard ring with out crushing the soft, even in end grain.I have only had carpenter's chisels which can be sharp, but are uncomfortable and fat for bench work.My plan was to get a cheap set and figure out which size was most practical then spring for a real one.Instead this good set caught my attention.They are plenty good!So good I will build muscle memory around them and stop dreaming about the fancy names out there.

After so much research the premium Narex seemed like a great choice for a weekend woodworker and hobbyist. Took over a hour on my 1000 grit diamond stone to get all 4 backs the useable condition. To then have to work on the actual edge, which was in horrible shape from factory. I expect some sharpening out of the box, this was excessive for premium chisels. They have held up well with continued use and i love the hornbeam handle. Durability is great so far, seems like a set I could pass down to my son.

This review is for the seller, Taylor Toolworks. The product shipped the first thing on Monday morning and I’d only purchased on late Sunday night. While the package was estimated to arrive after Thanksgiving, it actually arrived by 2 Day FedEx mail and took only well, 2 days. The product was packaged very securely and arrived safe and sound. I bought the Narex chisels because they are some of the best chisels out there. Therefore, I'm a little surprised that they were packaged in a a cardboard box, and that the chisels were loose inside the box, banging against each other. There are minor scratches on the chisels, which in general don't affect their performance, but when you are paying top dollar for high quality chisels you would think they would ensure the chisels are secured in the packaging.
