Are these good to wear at the shooting range?

WHAAAT? I can't hear you. Probably because I grew up shooting without any ear/eye protection... I can still read the question though... with my good eye. As others say, no headphones are designed for shooters (that I know of), however, I have used these with a leafblower and they are better than nothing at all.

Can these headphones reduce traffic noise (horn and engine noise) and bus noise itself (open window) while travelling in bus?

Noise cancelling technology, unless you spend hundreds of dollars, generally only reduce ambient noise that is consistent such as engine noise or airplane hum. They do not generally respond to inconsistent sounds like speech or sharp short term noises like car horns. They only reduce the noise but don't eliminate it so if the noise is loud it will still be somewhat overwhelming.

Is there a switch for turning on the noise cancelling function? I only want to use them to block out noise, not listen to music

yes, there is a switch that turns on the noise cancelling, and so you know they are not 100% efficient. The noise they block out are noises typically heard in airplanes like the engines, low noises, not people yelling and babies crying, just so you know.. If you want to not hear anything then you have to buy the expensive brands which do work very well, like bose and others..

Has anyone tested these on a plane? I am taking a short trip and would love something that would work better on a plane than my normal earbuds.

For the first time, I can watch stored videos on a plane. I use this on my bus/train commute as well, and normally turn on noise-cancelling only when the train is underground.
