This is an extensively researched, meticulously illustrated book on how the dancing blankets were made. From getting the mountain goat wool, to the dyes and the stick looms this book exhaustively explains how these tribes managed to "weave in a circle." Of special interest is the fact that the women who made these extraordinary masterpieces of woven art would "sign" them with a little special pattern signature on the corner of the lower side. They are extraordinary cultural pieces and the author's work has helped revive this art form. Dazzling.

The effort this author and artist put forth has paid off immeasurably - she practically saved Chilkat and Raven's Tail weaving. There was one Chilkat blanket weaver left and no one who knew from first hand instruction Raven's Tail weaving. Because of this book and her instruction both styles of weaving were preserved and led to a resurgence in this art.

This book is highly sought after by Haida artist who are learning how to weave chilkat blankets. One of my artist who does weaving for my gallery purchased this book from me by trading with one of her cedar bark weavings. This is an excellent book for the Haida weavers to use for reference. A beautifully produced book. The telling of the heritage stories and illustrations are lovely. The detail of the construction of the blankets is very clear with good illustrations informing the text. So glad I bought it.

Great book. I didn't realize when I ordered that this wasn't an original copy, but a reprint with photocopied pages. Loses a lot of detail with the photos in the book.
