Smartphone Tripod Mount - Metal Universal Smart Phone Tripod Adapter Including Both Standard and XL Mounting Kits

There are 2 angled V sections that are supposed to cradle around your phone to secure it in the clamping mechanism. The problem is they are too wide for typical smart phones. To keep your phone securely in the clamp, you really need to crank down on the screw. Just make those V shaped areas 4mm narrower and they would hold a phone so much better! Because it doesn't hold a phone very well, I gave sturdiness 3 stars.On other aspects, the clamping screw is sufficient to get a lot of force on the clamp. There are 2 screws and 2 sets of guide rods for smaller and larger phones. The clamping mechanism can be used for a large selection of mobile devices as a result. For this reason I gave it 5 stars for versatility.Ease of use could be a bit better. There is nothing to keep the jaws apart. The screw just makes them close, but does nothing to keep them open. As a result they flop around until you get them clamped on the phone. 2 springs on each guide rod would solve this issue as the jaws would stay open until the screw compressed the springs.This is more minutia than anything else. This clamp is designed to hold a phone and yet behind the phone is a 1/2" gap before you have the clamping mechanism. This gap could be reduced significantly and make the mount a lot more compact. I'll probably rework this mount significantly so that it holds my phone better and is more compact. I'll make the front lip a lot lower so it doesn't interfere with seeing the screen.I would change 3 things about this phone clamp:1. Add springs to the guide rods so the jaws spread open with the screw.2. Make the V grooves narrower so they hold your phone better.3. Make the front of the V grooves lower so they don't interfere with seeing the LCD so much.

Close to 90 days since using this mount.The metal construction is fantasticThe adjustable screw secured three different sizes phone from the LG Rumor 2, LG Optimus Slider, to the Samsung Galaxy Victory.The only con so far is the rubber padding. Understandably they are glued on, but the glue that hold them on fails.Lost 1 of 4 of those rubber pads in the field. So overall 4 of 5 stars.2016 April Update.Two years of use approximately.In that two years I only had two issues.3M rubber pads which was my original issue early 2014. Slipped off didnt keep my phone in place, lost em. Contacted Reticam, they gave me a set of additional rubber pads. Which is great of them. I don't find them reliable so I did lose them somewhere. So I just purchase rubberized phone cases instead. That problem solved.Issue 2The knob on the screw broke off on February of 2016. Discovered that part has plastic by way of the damage. Originally thought everything except the 3M rubberpads were metal. Well I decided to contact Reticam again, possibly this being out of warranty? Took weeks for them to reply.They sent in a replacement despite saying it was out of warranty.2018 February Update:That replacement knob and bolt they sent in 2016 broke off in latter 2016. Not the bolt, the knob at the top. Without the knob on the bolt exposes a hole were you can adjust with a hex driver of T25 size.Confirmed the weak points of the Reticam mount is the 3M adhesive pads, and the plastic knob which are not metal.Still using this mount to this day very sturdy.November 2018 UpdateJust realized seeing the Ulanzi knockoff here on Amazon copying it in detail. As well Reticam changed the white font on newer versions plus added a pouch to this listing.Oddly enough still using my mount.It has been through 6 phones, lost the rubber pads including replacements, and plastic knob for the bolt in the course 4 years 2 months.

Ok, so here we go. I don't really know why this product exists. That is to say what it's real purpose is( just kidding). I however do use it to hold my cell phone, as it was intended just mine hold my phone at 70+ MPH as I fly down the interstate. Let me tell you it does that job perfectly. I was looking for a cell phone holder that I felt I could trust while on my motorcycle, and this was it. I have hit potholes, rough roads, short stops, and crazy traffic and this thing holds on like its life depended on it. Truth is, it does. This clamp is made of metal and is sturdy as can be. I have thought about buying more for other accessories however I have run out of handlebar space. Seriously though, I ride my motorcycle everyday and this was the perfect long term solution that I could trust.
