Vanna's Choice: Color It Beautiful Afghans

I love love this book,,, the main go to for alot gift pattern,, but it came up mia when my daughter took it,, I finally got it back,, and got her, her own book. The pattern are fun and easy to do,, it's a great book!!!

Vanna may only have a few different afghan patterns in the book, but definitely makes some good ideas in reference to color brought together. She is using her own Lion Brand Yarn for all of the patterns, and shows how the different colors will look together. Some of the ideas she does, I would never have thought of, but they do look good together. I also like the idea that she includes ideas for the Warm Up America program that she partakes in. Most of the patterns are on the easier side.

I've seen a few reviews that say they don't care for the fact that this book just teaches so many squares and then gives you repetitive ideas for how to mix them in different color schemes to make afghans. But, look at the title here, it isn't necessarily being false. Also, once you get the idea you can modify the squares to make scarves, beanies, yoga mat bags, lots of things, if you know how to get creative. Yes, of course, the book suggests Vanna's Choice yarn all the time, but come on. I used it as a starting point and it was great for that, and everyone with this hobby gets renegade with yarn choices and specifics anyway. Also, the tutorial pages for learning stitches are very clear. I teach friends (who ask me!) how to crochet and this book has helped a lot of them get the hang of it.

Great crochet book for beginners -- afghan(s) instructions are easy to follow. Might not be a good choice for experienced crocheters who are looking for new and more challenging pattern ideas. Mostly just variations of the granny square, and simple single crochet patterns in this book. I like seeing her color combinations and found that useful. Many of the pattern directions call for two strands worked together the whole time, which doubles the cost of the afghan. I found that using single strand f'lecked' color yarn gives the look of mixed colors but cuts down on the overall cost of the project.

This is a very nice book with beautiful pictures and clear instructions. It's especially nice for people who like to crochet granny squares but I'm not into that because of having to sew the squares to complete an afghan. I did do the Kilim Afghan as a gift for my daughter and it turned out beautifully. However, having to buy so many skeins of yarn it did get to be on the expensive side (if you're on Soc.Sec. and a budget). I unhesitatingly recommend this book for those who like to crochet blankets, thrown, and afghans. I will probably make some of the other ones as the book makes it very tempting and when my budget allows.

I gave this three stars because it was just totally not my style. I ended up sending it to my mother, who liked it. The afghans (to ME) looked a little dated, but I've got a very particular idea of what I want in my head. I just can't find it.However, as far as afghan books go (and I've looked at a lot of patterns) it might be worth a look. Plus, being able to buy the yarn at Michaels is a BIG plus.

I've made many afghans from this book. They are beautiful and don't take a lot of time to make. They're colorful afghans and really fun to crochet. I've also given this book as a gift. The best afghan book I've ever purchased ... and I have many.

Love the beautiful crocheted pieces, colorful artwork, clear instructions and color names/numbers, (manufacturers change color names, but it's quite easy to find this info).

Vanna's Choice Color It Beautiful Afgans was a gift to my mom. It's sufficient......has a few good ideas but not an abundance. My mom is happy enough with it though. I bought it used so not so bad.....may think differently if I had paid more.
