Mommy, Was Your Tummy Big?

Good book but probably better for an older child
I was looking for books to read to my 3 year old donor egg baby to lay the groundwork for telling her about how she was made -- I plan to do it once she starts asking where she came from. This book does a good job of explaining the scientific process of egg donation in a way that kids can understand but it would probably be better for older kids. I don't think the overall story is strong enough to hold my 3 year old's attention right now but I think it will be great to read to her once she is old enough to ask about how she got into my tummy.

Simple, Sweet, and Informative
This book was recommended to me in a donor egg support group and I am glad I ordered it. It uses very simple language and illustrations to explain the donor egg process - how mommy and daddy wanted and wished for a baby but a baby never came, going to doctors for tests and medicine and still not being able to have a baby (I give extra points for showing the mommy elephant getting a shot in the butt😂) and how mommy and daddy were missing a part of the recipe needed to make a baby. It explains that this egg is different than the ones we eat and highlights the kindness of the donor for sharing the egg that mommy and daddy needed. It’s very sweet and simple. My baby is too young to understand it now, but i’ve already started reading it to her to help me get ready to talk about all this. My goal is that this is never a big deal, but that she always knows that it’s Mommy and Daddy who always wanted, wished, and hoped for her and the Donor who helped us. I think this book will help us have the language to do that.

Cute book!
This is a cute book to help your child understand an awkward to explain situation. I did not want my son to find out that I was not his natural birth mother when he was a teenager and was trying to find a way to start to explain now that he is young so he would grow up knowing that this was a normal thing. Being only 3 he does not understand the whole picture, but this book gives the basics without making things awkward on the parent and gives your child enough information that maybe it will sink in little by little.

Serves the purpose
I read this book before my baby via donor egg was born and loved it. Now that I read it to my two year old I find I don't like it as much. I don't like that it treats the male and female gametes differently - calling one a 'different kind' of egg that you don't eat while the daddy contributes a 'cell'. It also doesn't flow very well as a story and ends awkwardly. Still it serves the purpose and is a way to start a conversation.

Hard to find subject matter
Hard to find subject matter, but this book works. It is challenging to find the words a child will understand about egg donation. I am also putting together my own book for my child that was created via an egg donor that has a basic egg donor explaination, a picture of my donor, pictures of the ulreasoudns and me getting bigger. I hope this will make this as much of a non-issue while educating my son about his origins.

Great book
This book is great for introducing the concept of egg donation, without going into the details of reproduction. This is exactly the kind of story book I was looking for. It explains the love behind having your baby and the longing to make a family. It's a light hearted story and very colorful illustrations.

Simple cute story
I Ike this book to introduce the whole concept to my 4 year old boys. I think it's cute and simple just not sure if they are ready yet. I'm so glad there is at least something that can start a discussion!
