Disappointing
This DVD has positive and negative aspects, and overall I would probably not have bought it if I had seen it first. It may be useful for someone who has never done yoga before, can do some of the poses standing up, and doesn't have hip issues.First of all, this DVD is supposed to be chair yoga, but there are some standing yoga poses. The only thing she says about it is that if you can't stand up to do them, just imagine yourself doing them - LAME! I expected there to be modifications shown that can be done from a seated position. The 2 segments on this DVD both have exercises that are too hard for me to do with hip arthritis, yet the rest of the easy segment is really much too easy for me. The harder segment is more up my alley, but the standing poses and seated movements that involve hips are impossible, and are more extensive than in the easy segment - so there are significant parts I can't do. I'm not sure who this is intended for, because the "bicycle pedaling" movements seem like they would be hard for anyone who would want a chair yoga workout, and frankly I'm not sure what they have to do with yoga. The narrator unfortunately has a thick German accent - it's sometimes challenging to understand her. However I do like the fact that it is done with a voiceover rather than her trying to tell you how to do the poses while doing them. I have other yoga DVDs where the teacher talks while doing the poses and it is far less effective. This aspect makes a big difference in my opinion!A shortcoming of this DVD is that in a couple of places she says you should hold a pose for a certain period, but she herself doesn't do so, meaning you have to pause the DVD in order to hold the pose that long.Another thing I like about this DVD is that the meditation segment has pretty video of what I assume is the Irish coast (since she says she lives in Ireland). She appears to be a good yoga teacher and her explanations are decent. I just wish more thought had been given to the fact that if someone can't do a pose, there are modifications that can be made to make it easier.

Great book for beginners.
I already do all the exercises in this book so it was the wrong choice for me. However, it would be great for somewhat who wants to start out very slowly to get the body moving.

You're never too old to practice yoga..
As a personal trainer and fitness class instructor of "mature" seniors, I found this to be a very practical and effective programming tool for seated classes. My class participants love the variety, the gentle flexibility work, breathe work, and the subtle "brain teasers". The advantage of Chair Yoga for this audience is to make the yoga practice benefits available to those who don't have the strength and balance skill for traditional poses, in a safe environment.Class participants have told me that they thought they were too old to start practicing yoga, but they love this approach.

Some seniors approve...
2 excellent chair routines, appreciated by frail adults and those seeking a relaxation/breathing oriented chair practice. Some standing poses which are easily adapted for sitting. Numerous "breathe and feel the stretch in your..." breaks will not appeal to those with attention deficits. Not a particularly finessed video production.

... Chair Yoga and I found this book to have wonderful, simple to follow exercises that I can recommend ...
I teach Therapeutic Chair Yoga and I found this book to have wonderful, simple to follow exercises that I can recommend to my students for home practice. I always recommend that people work with a certified yoga teacher to learn the correct way to do poses, both for benefit and to avoid injury. This book makes a great companion to a regular class.

Comprehensive and informative
As a yoga teacher, I have found this detailed and informative for the general reader without becoming too technical. It gives safe, accessible directions for asana and pranayama practice, as well as insight into the other aspects of a fully rounded yoga practice ( lifestyle, diet, meditation) I wholeheartedly recommend this book for those who find the prospect of yoga physically daunting, as well as to all yoga practitioners who will find an array of ideas that can be applied in situations when a full asana practice is not practical.

Comprehensive and accessible
I've practiced yoga for many years and now am teaching my studio's first seated/chair yoga class. I wanted a useful guide with descriptions of poses and accurate photos. The book is well organized and thorough. It also includes sections on yogic philosophy and healthy lifestyles. Nicely done.

Very Disapointing
Very nice exercise routines on the whole-but as I cant stand up as I am profoundly disabled,I found the exercises which required to "stand up "obvioiusly not possible..I would have loved to have had an alternative chair based way of doing these exercises. This is why I bought "chair yoga" after all.Would have been really great if this had been done.I am sure other people might well thought this too.

excellent quide to chair yoga
I have been teaching adapted yoga for a while now and felt my classes needed more variety: this book has lots of variations to poses which has allowed me to make each practice different. The sample classes are a fantastic and invaluable aid for teachers. Particularly useful to me is the section on exercises for the brain as I also work with people who have head injuries - thank you.

This book gives helpful suggestions on modifying yoga to help suit all abilities.
As a Dru Yoga teacher I found this book helpful in offering ideas to modify a class to suit those less able bodied. Easily adapted to suit the gentle style of Dru Yoga. Better than other books I have read on the subject.

Really useful guide with very clear instructions
This is a great book - not many available for chair yoga - but it has some great suggestions and some routines in the back.
