Christians and non-Christians, the boomer generation and the millennials- buy this book so that we can come together as a nation and make a U-turn!

This book provides interesting statistical surveys leading to the decline of the United States. It puts numerical values, which allows you to see how the United States has changed from its foundation. There are several interesting quotes from our Founding Fathers, which show that our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. The author stress the great crisis our nation is in today. His solution is that we as individuals need to return to the religious values that made our country great, as individuals, and to participate in the community with these values, and elect people at all levels that accepts these basic moral values. The author's point of view is primarily Protestant and stresses the Bible as the only source of moral value. From a Catholic point of view, this would exclude the teaching authority of the Catholic Church, which is the institution which assembled the Bible in 405 AD. Catholic would agree that the Bible is a fundamental source, but the history, practice, and teaching of the Catholic Church is important in having a consistent unified view of the meaning of the Bible. You will find among Protestant and Evangelical Christian varying interpretations of the meaning of various verses. Overall, the author does show that the original of the American Republic is Biblically based and the Constitution and BIll of Rights are derived from Biblical principles. The U turn in the book is as individuals we need to live the message of the Bible and apply it in our daily life. The solution is primarily a spiritual message. I would not disagree with the solution, but overall there is not a lot of content in the writing. There are about 200 pages of larger print text with about 60 more pages of references to the information presented. Whether the references always support the assertions completely, I am somewhat dubious. However, I did not take the time to trace every one of the footnotes down.

Everyone needs to read this book!! It takes us back to the days when personal responsibility, responsible labor, and traditional marriage, family, faith and national pride were a part of our every day lives. Yes, we need to get back to the biblical foundations that made America a lantern and a land of liberty (freedom with responsibility).

Barna and Barton have their finger on the pulse of American culture like no other. They lay out the facts, what is happening to America, and how is America turning from the Christian God that has guided the people of this nation for 400 years. We are turning at our own peril. Excellent book, based on Biblical interpretation of the facts. Straight facts. Every Christian should read this book. Read it and give it to your pastor. We all need to what is happening to our community.

As you may know, George Barna has been the gold standard of survey research regarding the church for the past thirty years. U Turn combines his knowledge of trends today with that of historian David Barton's knowledge of the country's founding. You'll be shocked by how far we've fallen as a church and country, but also encouraged by the simple solutions they suggest to make a much needed U Turn.

I am not always, as a Christian, happy about the statistics. However, understanding the importance of facing the truth of statistics, I am glad that Barton and Barna give a way for America to regain her Constitutional, our God-given early history where people did not compartmentalize their lives into world and church. No, our Founding Fathers knew we would have to be people of character, who take their Christian hearts and behavior into all areas of their worldly lives. We must demand people of character to represent us at all levels of government.

This is a must read for anyone who is truly concerned about our country. David Barton has done it again. The more I read of David Barton's books and his explanation of the founding of this country, the more I see where we have lost our way. We all must be involved in this country and not just taking what we can get, Read this book!
