Amazing Book
Great book for weight loss, and putting food in appropriate place in life, but teachings are applicable to ALL strongholds in our lives, not just food. Love this book

Good study, some biblical inaccuracies
I love Barbβs work. I have read several of her books and listen to her podcast. They have helped me enormously as Iβve sought freedom from food addiction. However, I am not a fan of taking passages from the Old Testament which were written at a specific time to a specific people (Israel) and applying them personally to the modern believer. This study has some of that going on. So yes, it is a solid study as long as you use discernment and understand the larger context of some of the Old Testament verses.

Great tool
Confession, I got half way through and stopped reading, but that's more about me not wanting to wake up in the morning. It's a very good read/ toll to assist in lifestyle changes, not just about diet but about discipline and about doing it all "unto the Lord." I have recommended this book and it's companion book and app "I Deserve a Donut" to many of my friends, and I can recommend it here as well. The success of it falls to the reader/ user, the book itself is great!

Helpful for more than just food issues
I have failed at diets because I don't like to be told what to eat. I have failed in my attempts at "mindful eating" because it is too easy for me to tell myself that yes, I really am hungry and I will stop eating that ice cream when I am full. I have thought about going to a nutritionist or a counselor, but as I mentioned: don't tell me what to eat. I know what healthy eating looks like, but I just don't do it.Barb doesn't tell you what to do in this book. She asks probing questions that help you to see the truth. She has obviously done all the things the rest of us have done in our dieting/ overeating/dieting cycles, like pigging out today because we're starting over tomorrow and we're going to be PERFECT. With carefully chosen questions and Bible verses, she helps us see that God understands our weaknesses, He still loves us, and He wants to help us. Questions like, "What will your life look like a few months down the road if you keep eating what you want when you want it" have helped me to look beyond the five minutes of pleasure I'll get from eating a bunch of brownies. The questions have helped me to work through other issues I'm having, such as anxious anticipation over a job change and an out-of-state move. I keep looking for information about Barb, certain that she must be a licensed counselor or have a psychology degree. But it appears that she is just a very gifted writer and teacher. I cannot recommend this book enough, along with her other book, " I Deserve a Donut."

It's Not Just For Women
I have to admit that, as a guy, I was a bit skeptical about reading this book, but I found it surprisingly relevant and packed with powerful truths. Three things that stand out for me: 1) I never thought about the Bible as a tool; this book transformed my thinking on that front, particularly when I realized that Jesus used Bible verses, not just prayer to overcome His temptations. 2) The concept Barb provides about boundaries is compelling; I have all kinds of boundaries in my life that I don't resent and actually find helpful. Those boundaries don't permit me to have an orgy once a year or reward myself with an affair so why do I think it is okay to gorge on food at Thanksgiving or go hog wild on food while on vacation? 3) The concepts of Truth Journaling and Scripture Prayer are both really helpful to avoid the trap of emotional eating. But I think the biggest testimonial I can offer is that I actually LOST weight doing this study. More importantly, I didn't lose as much weight as I wanted but, because of this book, I am okay with that and am going to continue renewing my mind, confident that freedom from a food addiction AND weight loss will be mine in God's time!

Renew your mind for permanent weight loss
This book is like a deeper dive into Lisa Turkhusrt's made to crave, and a systematic way to renew your mind along the lines of "love to eat hate to eat". Barb does a great job of applying scriptural truth to the Christian's weight loss struggles, including emotional eating, our rebellion against boundaries, gluttony and idolatry. If you have ever found yourself eating more than you need in a day, while telling yourself "I'll start tomorrow" you need this book. If you find yourself going to food for comfort because it is so much easier and more immediate than learning how to deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ, you need this book. If you need help figuring out why you keep sabotaging your efforts to have a lean and healthy body, you need this book. This book is not a quick fix. It is more like a training manual that you will want to use over and over and over again until you are finally free. If you have a lifetime of habits to break free from, do not despair. God can set you free, and Barb can help you on your journey. I also highly recommend her podcast, "Christian Habits."I bought the Kindle version of the book, and use copy and paste to put each day's study in my Evernote journal so that I can answer the questions on my phone wherever I am.
