Good price but what is the sticky dark red/black substance on the boxes? Really grossed me out to be honest, even though the worst of it had been covered up in amazon prime tape.

When your unit's power light changes from blue to red. See my photos, there's an obvious difference between a new and spent filter. The spent filter on the right had also been cleaned with a Dyson monthly, and again just before I took those photos. For me the light flipped over a couple of days beyond 6 months, though strangely after changing the filter the light hasn't gone back to blue.When you do change the filter you need to hold the UV button down for about 5 seconds for the unit to reset the filter replacement timer. That will change the light from red back to blue.P.S. My review isn't showing as "verified purchase" because I had a spare filter from a faulty original unit, thus haven't needed to purchase an individual filter, yet. -- I was permitted to keep the (fresh) filter as a spare.
