Exactly the same as the original
I never thought we would find this item and after a couple of false starts and returns, we finally found the right size that exactly matched the one that was on the boat, even after 30 years!

Perfect fit...
Recently restored an older boat, during which the old hatch spring decided it had had enough. This one doesn't seem to be as heavy duty as the old one. I'm not sure if it's just that the old one had stiffened up with age or a difference in the part. Either way, after adjusting the mounting points due to the difference it's working perfectly. It's holding up a fairly heavy rear seat back that goes all the way across the back of the boat. Would buy it again.

Does exactly what it is intended to do
This spring is high quality, I purchased this one as an identical replacement for my engine room hatch door spring which gave ten years of service before breaking. It has a stainless cable inside to keep the spring from over-extending. Easy to mount.

High quality - some info missing
This is a good product; although quite a pricy one. It will support quite a bit of weight. How much is quite a bit? We don't know because there is no information posted by Amazon, as usual. I have one spring supporting about 60 lbs. If the spring is forced (by the weight of the hatch lid), it is destroyed. Be sure your friends and family know to pull the spring to disengage. Sea Dog does not ship a sticker or a weight rating with the hatch spring. If there is a sticker available, please share.
