Marilyn Monroe lives on.
I think dedicated fans of Marilyn will love this film, purely for the fact that you get to see what she was like, (according to certain sources) behind the scenes of her movies and also in her personnel life. Both actresses play Norma Jean/Marilyn perfectly, especially Mira Sorvino, who has created her just as we would imagine her to be. The only problem I had was that her weight stayed the same through out the film, when in truth in fluctuated up and down quite a bit. Although I wouldn't expect the actresses to gain and lose weight just for the part, it would have made her a bit more real.Throughout the film it gives you glimpses of all Marilyn's highlights in her career, and all her lows. At times it made me feel quite sad just seeing how lost she really was.I really enjoyed this film and feel that it's definitely worth having in your Marilyn Monroe collection. (If you have one that is!)

Good 90s biopic from HBO
Movie: Made by cable channel HBO, this is a good biopic but rather overlong at 139 mins. It uses a device where the roles of Norma Jean and Marilyn are played by different actresses to emphasise the transformation into the screen persona.DVD: Mediocre full screen print (as this was filmed for cable TV). Note that the Region 1 is a longer version than the Region 2 which has a much sharper widescreen anamorphic print, so it's not an easy choice for the buyer.

Five Stars
Excellent product and service.

Another near miss.
A difficult subject matter which, i suspect, never really considered the deeper issues, for example, depression and insecurity.

Not at all so very bad, if . . .
Not at all so very bad, if you don't care about the level of truthfulness of Monroe's biography. Of course, Monroe fans are disappointed, because of the negative image of Monroe, portrayed in this film. But some of it must be true, I'm sure.I think it an entertaining and occasionally moving film. Sorvino and Judd are very attractive, even better looking than the original, i.m.o.. The dialog between the two in the split personality scenes is very funny. And to me, the main message of this film is also clear. Hollywood is a snake pit with creepy, selfish people everywhere and Monroe, as a vulnerable and insecure young girl, was a victim of the film industry.

Ashley Judd looked far more like young Norma Jeane than Mira Sorvino looked like Marilyn ...
God awful adaption of what is supposed to be the true story of Norma Jeane Baker (Marilyn Monroe). This is just an insult to the memory of woman: it glosses over many of the important events in her life while ignoring several others entirely, such events which shaped her and influenced her into being the woman she was were so glossed over and for a huge portion of the film all we see is her bragging over her drug problems and drinking champagne, conversing with herself as she sees visions of herself as a younger actress.A lot of the huge problems arise quite swiftly, everything from how she was discovered to how she reached fame, various relationships she supposedly had (which to which there was never any proof or verification of). They have her drug problem addressed fairly quickly (far faster than it reportedly did stsrt), and spend more time focused on that and her visions of talking to herself than anything that actually happened in her life. The use of two actresses absolutely escapes me and I can only think this was to cut down on production costs and special effects for the "talking to myself" scenes. Ashley Judd looked far more like young Norma Jeane than Mira Sorvino looked like Marilyn and the believability dropped for me the moment Mira Sorvino took over, playing Marilyn as a ditzy, drug-addled user and whore despite there is proof the woman was far more intelligent than she was believed to be. Judd's performance was no better, portraying her as a rather cold-hearted, ambitious opportunist (but at least she looked more like her than Sorvino).Set upon a ridiculously "film noir" soundtrack, no real fact checking going on, and the ending even portraying her death inconsistently: sorry, she was not found in the bathroom and there's no conclusive proof she ever died in an ambulance (and even if we're to believe that rumour, there was no explanation as to how she was somehow miraculously found in her bed). The situation with her known affairs were glossed over (especially JFK), as were her marriages to Joe DiMaggio and Miller. Far too much time focused on her being doped, not enough into her personality or her story. Ridiculously poor writing and not to mention the several mistakes and anachronisms which took me out of the story to boot.Just avoid, it doesn't give you any insight nor sympathy for the woman or even make you think, it's just one long excuse for Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino to get their breasts out and use the "F" word.
