Product Description Deck the halls with Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Jokey and all the other true blue friends in these absosmurfly charming animated specials from The Smurfs TV series. In ‘TIS the Season to be Smurfy, young Sassette Smurf discovers the true meaning of the season when the Smurfs befriend an elderly human couple who have no money to celeberate Christmas. Then in The Smurfs Christmas Special, the wicked Gargamel plots to ruin Christmas for the Smurfs and with the help of an evil stranger, he destroys the Smurf’s village. But even with no Christmas decorations or holiday feast, the Smurfs still have a smurfy song in their hearts. Will Gargamel feel the Christmas spirit this year? Dash through the snow to give your family the smurfiest gift of the season! .com This double bill brings together a pair of prime-time episodes from the animated Hanna-Barbera series, which ran on NBC from 1981 to 1989. In the first, "The Smurfs' Christmas Special" (1982), the blue creatures with the white hats prepare for the holiday by decorating the tallest tree and making a great pudding, which looks like a cauldron full of lumpy cotton candy. At the same time, two children, William and Guinevere, and their grandfather travel through the snowy woods to their uncle's house. The unbridled enthusiasm of all these merrymakers grates on the nerves of curmudgeonly wizard Gargamel and his cat, Azrael, who join forces with a dastardly bandit to spoil their fun (Gargamel is looking for gold, the bandit for revenge). In the process of setting things right, the Smurfs sing "Goodness Makes the Badness Go Away," which offers a hopeful message, though two performances seems like one too many. In the second special, "'Tis the Season to Be Smurfy" (1987), the toadstool dwellers introduce Wild Smurf to his first Christmas, while Grandpa Smurf (voiced by Jonathan Winters) and Sassette foil a pickpocket and help out doll maker Gustav and his sick wife Elise (though listed first on the cover, this episode actually plays second). The lessons of the set include forgiveness, sharing with the less fortunate, and looking after the elderly, especially those without a support system. Tiny viewers may find the ravenous snakes, rats, and wolves frightening, but this brief, if enjoyable release is otherwise appropriate for all ages. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

A Christmas classic
My daughter is 5yrs old and loves the Smurfs. I used to watch this when I was her age when it first premiered. It's nice to see the long term appeal of this.

Great DVD
The Smurfs DVD arrived fast and is in great shape. I was a little hesitant to purchase a used DVD, but I'm glad that I did. It saved me some money and the way things are today, that's a good thing! I will most likely buy more used DVDs in the future! Thanks for a wonderful product!

Colorful cartoon that teaches good moral lessons
I ordered The Smurf's Holiday Celebration DVD to watch this Christmas season with my grandchildren and decided to watch it first. It is 48 minutes long and contains two stories; "The Smurfs' Christmas Special" and "Tis the Season to be Smurfy." My daughter used to love the Smurfs when she was growing up, so now her children can enjoy them as well."The Smurf's Christmas Special" finds the Smurfs busy preparing for Christmas, decorating their village and making Great Pudding, while Gargamel, as always, is busy thinking of ways to destroy the little blue folks. Along comes a horse and sleigh carrying two children and their grandfather. Their sleigh overturns, and the story's focus turns to the two lost children seeking help. The Smurfs find the frightened children and take them to their village where they share with them their presents, pudding, and songs. The children think Papa Smurf is Santa Claus. Gargamel teams up with an evil stranger to kidnap the children, but evil is thwarted when the Smurfs repeatedly sing the song "Goodness makes the badness go away." There is, of course, a happy ending. The evil stranger, the kidnapping of the children, and a circle of fire that they are trapped in may be a bit scary for very young children, but I would say this show would be fine for ages 5 and up. For younger children, a parent might want to watch it with them to answer any questions about what is taking place. In the second movie, "Tis the Season to be Smurfy", the Smurfs are again busy decorating their village for Christmas. Grandpa Smurf takes Sassette to the human village to see how they celebrate Christmas Eve, and they discover that not all humans are as "smurfy" as they should be, meaning some of them are bad. They discover an elderly puppet maker who has an ailing wife, and she has a wish of seeing Christmas elves. Grandpa Smurf and Sassette decide to find a way to make their Christmas Eve smurfier, but they have a hard time convincing the other Smurfs to take the time to help. Papa Smurf shows up to remind all the Smurfs that they shouldn't be so busy with their own holiday preparations that they fail to see that there are people who have greater needs. And so the entire Smurf clan trudges their way through a snow storm to bring Christmas cheer to the old couple. An evil thief causes a mixup that almost gets the old couple arrested, but the thief is convinced by the Smurfs that giving is better than taking.Again, I would suggest this movie for ages 5 and up unless you watch it with them. The story line is a little too fast paced and complicated for children younger than that. Both movies share the values of helping those in need, sharing what you have with others, and caring for those less fortunate.

I loved the Smurf's Christmas shows and every year they show ...
I loved the Smurf's Christmas shows and every year they show them less and less. This year we were not able to see it at all, so I decided I should just order the dvd to have it on hand so we can watch it when we want to.
