The Diary of a Killer Cat

Delivered in the time frame which was about 3 weeks. I’ve read Diary of a Killer Cat to elementary students before and bought this used paperback for my grandson.

Being from the US, my first encounter with Anne Fine's work was at Seven Stories National Centre. I was taking a college course on British Children's Literature authors and randomly grabbed this book.What I know, is the only way to get my son's interested in reading at an early age was to find something humorous that would make them laugh and want to read again and again. This book reminded me of that. If you're looking for a way to hook your child into reading, this book will do it. My children are grown now and have been reading since second grade. :)

This early reader is told from the point of view of Tuffy, a pet cat who drags a dead bird into the house. Ellie, his girl owner, tries to get Tuffy to change his ways. And then the neighbor's pet rabbit is killed and Tuffy is blamed. The great strength of this story is the voice of the cat. Tuffy is self-centered, all-knowing, and defiant. But totally lovable for being himself. The first part of the story moves along more quickly than the second part. An enjoyable read.

I thought it was funny. My daughter (7) didn't think so. I'll have her read it again in a few months.

The story itself was really funny, but the only problem was the length. It was sooo short! I read through it in about 5 minutes. I recommend it to early readers. I also recommend buying it, but only on a kindle, where its free.

My daughter liked this book a lot, a great story in a series of good reads for kids. The only thing she didn't like was the predatory side of the cat, ironically :)

Funny, fresh, my son read it in an hour and enjoyed it a lot.

Fun read. I had the book in French and I wanted the translation version. Using the two to practice our French.

As Grandparents we very much enjoy our weekly reading sessions with our just turned 8 year old.Of course, she is now able to read for herself but together with our Daughter- her Mum, we love these times when we read over FaceTime and discuss the pictures and plot.This is a very funny book. We definitely have a would be killer cat although their cat has not yet discovered the joy of bringing home a “gift.”The plot is delightful and the story is easily read over 2 sessions. It is laugh out loud for all ages. It is told by Tuffy the cat who is highly exasperated by the way his family fail to take delight in his triumphs over his prey.It is descriptive and well written.We all found it a joy and are looking forward to the next one next week

Read this to my eldest girls (aged 5 and 6) and they disliked it (asked me to stop reading it) until the twist in the final chapter, at which point they decided they loved it! We went on to read the other killer cat books, none of which was as entertaining as this book. Have just read it to my son and daughter (aged 6 and 8) and they enjoyed it from beginning to end so I'd recommend reading it from 6 years onwards.

Witty, hilarious and wonderfully written, The Diary of a Killer Cat is one for every child's bookshelf. Tuffy is just the epitome of a typical cat - 'the look' he gives reminded me strongly of the one my cat gives me when I've ordained to take too long to get his dinner ready. It's a great read for those children who are just moving on to longer, 'chapter' books - it's engaging, yet attainable. Get a copy - you won't regret it!

A wonderful story which the children thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Hilarious my daughter had to read it for school found a little morbid at first but my 7 year old loved it.
