Tycon Power Systems 12VDC to 120VAC 400W Power Inverter. This is a high efficiency 90 power inverter to convert 12VDC to 120VAC 60Hz. The total power output is 400W continuous and 800W peak. The units have a low voltage disconnect feature to disconnect the load from the battery if battery voltage falls below 10V. This important feature protects the batteries from deadly over discharge which shortens the life of batteries. The unit has two North America 3 Prong 120VAC Outlets one 5V USB port and one 12V cigarette lighter port. All ports are equipped with dust covers. The latest modified sine wave and soft start technology. The modified sine wave closely approximates the grid AC power and is compatible with most AC powered devices. The soft start technology minimizes power spikes upon startup of the inverter by bringing up the AC voltage gradually. The inverter has a metal casing with plastic accents and high speed thermostatically controlled cooling fan. The units have multiple protections - Low Voltage Over Voltag Overload Short Circuit Thermal.Features. Two separate AC outlets. Low Voltage Disconnect saves batteries. OnOff Switch. 12VDC Cigarette Lighter Style Output. USB Output for charging smartphones and other devices. Wire Terminal 12VDC Voltage Inputs. Overload and Thermal Protection. Soft Start Technology. Seems like a good solid unit and I like it.
Tycon Systems INV-12-120-400 -- I've used this only twice so far (about 6 hours of use total) but it worked perfectly, made no noise, and barely got warm. It really didn't do anything wrong at all in my application which is just running some lights. I was able to verify the claimed efficiency of 90% by measuring the input current and voltage, and comparing to the known load wattage on the output. The unit looks good and is solidly constructed everywhere that I can see. Nothing cheesy or cheapo about it. The low voltage cutout worked perfectly at 10 volts and it made a sound to let me know. (I was running down a large 12v battery that was not connected to any charging system). The soft start worked just as I would expect, bringing the voltage up gradually over about 2 seconds. The user manual is good compared to other manuals I have seen for devices like this. It is in pretty good English. There is a diagram that shows what the modified sine waveform looks like compared to pure sine wave. There is even a short section called "Principles" (of operation). Wow. I don't see a pdf download for this manual, I only have it on paper. But there is a pdf download of the spec sheet available from the Tycon Systems web site.I think it is sensibly designed and has the right features. I like it.
