Ronnie Wilson's Gift

At nearly two, our son is starting to enjoy cuddling up to a good book read by his mother or me. We have quite a collection of books that was given to us by his generous grandmother, including great titles from Dr. Seuss and Arnold Lobel. There are good lessons in these for children. There were a few Christian titles, but we still wanted to expand our boy's choices of Christian children's literature to fuel a hunger after God early in life.As part of that quest, we came across the book, Ronnie Wilson's Gift by Francis Chan. The book tells the story of little Ronnie Wilson. One day in Sunday School, Ronnie learns that Jesus gave him the ultimate gift through His death and resurrection. Ronnie is so thankful that he wants to give Jesus a gift in return, but it's hard to get your favorite baseball glove to heaven. During his attempts to send Jesus his gift, Ronnie takes the time to help some people in need.At the end of the book, Jesus appears to Ronnie in a dream and tells him that all those things he did to help others was like doing them for Jesus, so Ronnie gives his baseball glove to a boy in need of one.My wife and I cry every time we read it to our son. Not because the story is particularly moving but because Jesus is particularly moving. That He would empathize so much with those in need that He makes charity given to them equivalent to charity given to Him, our King, is mind-boggling! We saw this book at our church and just got it here while ordering other items. This is a great book on the fundamental principle of showing love for God by serving and giving to others. This is a very simple book in that it's very easy for a toddler to understand. I read it to my 3 1/2 year old and with some very simple explanation of the topic, he was able to understand the main point of the book. The book also includes a letter from the author regarding the spritiual development of our children and that it is the responsibility of the parents to be the main example-setters, not by mere words, but seeing those words in action by our daily living. I highly recommend this book as a way to explain that we, as Christians, should serve "the least of these", because by doing so, we are serving Christ Himself. This book also has a couple of scripture verses that tie into the message of the story. Spend the $12 for this book... it's worth it's weight in heavenly gold regarding the lesson it teaches about loving and serving our great Lord, Jesus Christ.

Neat book for children 5-10

A meaningful story for readers of any age! I plan to purchase a few more to give as gifts to the "Ronnie's" in our life

We love this book. It has a great message and now my 4- year old wants to send things to Jesus

Francis Chan does a great job of writting a book to teach smaller children about Loving God & His Word and still keeping the interest of an adult. My 2 year old wants to read this, as well as Chan's other children's books, w/ his Bible every night before bed time. The illustrations are creative and capture's the attention for readers to making it difficult to get distracted from the story at hand. I also recomend Chan's other children's books if you have little children. "Halfway Herbert" and "The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village".

As a pastor and a father I get pretty tired of many of the Christian children's books being oversimplified or having too weak of a message. Ronnie Wilson's Gift is probably the best or one of the best Christian children's books I have come across in my 5 years of being a father. The message here is one of the best ever and even adults could benefit from reading this book. Get it now!

I’m a fan of Francis Chan and I was thrilled to see he began to write some children’s books. This one is excellent!

Francis Chan is a wonderful disciple of God. His speaks (and writes) from a God-heart with a voice that speaks God's truth and wisdom. I was really exiting to discover recently that he had penned a few children's books and so quickly bought Ronnie Wilson's Gift for my children. It is such a warm and lovely teaching for children (and adults) and very moving. We all had a tear in our eyes on the last page.

Excellent book. I also enjoyed it as I read to my son. Highly recommended! Will buy more and give as gifts!
