Got this as a birthday present for my mom and she loved it!

What a great giftc idea most people like and have herd about them but dont really know much about snowflakes. Its a good well photoed book small and gift sized.

Purchased this book as a door prize for a snowflake-themed baby shower in the winter and the winner was absolutely delighted. She said her children recently discussed the structure of snowflakes and the book was perfect for her to share with them. She later said she, her husband and children really enjoyed seeing all the photos and learning so much about something very special in nature.

I first saw Libbrecht's work in a recent issue of The American Scientist, and was delighted when my wife gifted me with this charming little book. In language that engages without condescending, Libbrecht explains the formation, symmetry, and growth of these miniature crystalline gems. I had just finished reading the book when we had an early-March snowfall. Armed with my modest digital camera and its macro settings, I was able to not only photograph individual snowflakes, but actually see for myself the changes in snowflake morphology as the termperature and humidity varied during the snowstorm. Later, after proudly sharing my photos with friends, they asked to see the book and were as captivated as I. Even if you don't care to understand the physics of snow, it's likely you'll never look at snow the same way. And it was stimulating to see that "snowflakes" are often capped columns or needles. I can't wait until the next snowfall!

great gift for grandkids who live in Maine. Gets the kids outside playing in the snow. And they can really see all the different flakes clearly where with my old eyes, everything is a bit of a blur, LOL, but I do remember when I could see the individual snow flakes and it gives me joy to see them looking up the various kids of snowflakes they are finding.

This book is a small powerhouse. We live near the home of Snowflake Bentley in Vermont, who has taken more snowflake photographs that anyone else. My husband loves looking at his pictures, so he bought it because he has started to photograph snowflakes. This book has some beautiful photos, but even better, it describes how snowflakes form. Having read it, I could also tell if the snowflakes would be photo worthy or not. However, once I understood how they are made, I like then all- enjoy some of the odd shapes.

Amazing little book, always knew they say that no snowflake is the same, but this shows you quite clearly.Great for picking up for a few minutes and then putting back down, unless you want to stare at them for hours comparing.

All my associates have been deriding me for having my head stuck in a book about snowflakes, but I found this book very interesting and engaging. Now I know what the wrong type of snow is...A good (and quite short) introduction, there are other more voluminous encyclopedias, but you could give this to anyone and not go wrong.

I really enjoyed the book, which had detailed photogrphs of snowflakes, alongside explanations of how snowflakes form in the way they do. It is quite an approachable book for a beginner.
