Charles Bargue: Drawing Course

Bargue's was the classic drawing course for artists for 50 years or so until academic figurative art became 'passé'. It is a magnificent book in itself (thence 5 stars) but one must be warned that despite the title it is not a course as we understand it, with lessons, explanations and exercices: it is a collection of 200 lithographs copied from old masters that students of art would copy to learn the "Proper Taste", with an overwhelming emphasis on the human figure (you will not learn to draw kittens). Van Gogh did the whole thing twice... If you believe that a solid basis in classical drawing is the prerequisite to more advanced training, go for it. Makes a great coffee table book as well.

Für alle, die das neuerwachsne Interesse an einer klassischen Ausbildung in künstlerischen Techniken interessiert sind, eine unbedingte Empfehlung. Die Vorlagen dürfen laut Impressum sogar in privaten Kunstschulen und Ateliers zur Ausbildung verwendet werden. Schade, dass es das Buch noch nicht in Deutsch gibt.

Estos ejercicios son llevados acabo en las academias de dibujo más exigentes, ayudando a desarrollar las habilidades del claro oscuro, la dimensión, proporción y el desarrollo de la sensibilidad en la mano. ALTAMENTE recomendado incluso tan bello para coleccionar. Me gustaría que hubiese una versión más barata del libro en pasta dura ya que de esta manera se conservaría mejor.

Ho comprato il libro per fare gli esercizi di disegno, molto bello, carta di qualità, trovo che un formato con fogli che si possano staccare sarebbe utile per chi studia disegno. In ogni caso un bel libro per chi studia arte.
