Hello, This bed requires a box spring to support the mattress. You may also use a metal bed frame instead of a box spring, although you may not need to install the wooden slats included with the bed if you go that route.

Q: What's the distance from the top of slat ledge to the start of the tufting on the headboard? I am trying to see if I need to get a smaller boxspring.

The distance from the start of the tufting to the slat is 15 inches. We recommend the standard height box spring for our bed frames. Sincerely, Jennifer Taylor Home

Hi, yes it will. Just don't install the slats in the middle to fit the adjustable bed.
