iPad: The Missing Manual

This extensive book will answer and explain every question you could possibly have I imagine.

Gotta say was disappointed with all the positive reviews. First, a disclaimer. I have an Ipad Mini 2 with IOS 8.1. However, the write up says the book is also for Ipad Mini's, not just Ipads. The main beefs are the number of errors, most small but irritating. And, that is after 85 pages. The section on Siri and dictation did not match the functionality of my Ipad mini. The other errors were clearly simple errors. Also, it seemed he was writing to an audience who had familiarity with Ipads or Iphones. I have neither but am quite computer literate. The third beef was the shiny paper and the skinny fonts, which are hard to see with any kind of direct light for folks with mild or moderate visual issues. In fact the fonts were the skinniest I have ever seen. That is quite an oversight by the publisher. So, there do appear to be other manuals out there, and I have just ordered the Dummies book for Ipad minis. So, if you are not familiar with Apple IOS's and/or have a mini not an Ipad, and you have visual difficulties, then this book will offer some real challenges for you. On the positive side 90% was helpful and it is clear this fellow has some expertise, so I did learn some things. But, I am going with another book due to the irritations mentioned and it's just too hard to read due to shiny paper and skinny fonts, unless positioned just right in the light. They do need to fix the errors, though, even though minor.

Useful book for an overview of the iPad. But I had hoped it would be useful for a crisis. I mistakenly shut the iPad off and in restarting it, needed not just the finger swipe, but the Passcode. ...I tried every possible one, including AppleID and the passcode I use for the iPhone. None worked and I hadn't written down the Passcode (and with fingerswipe, have not used it since setting it up months ago.) Yes, I know, my error --- but I had the Missing Manual!However, that gives instructions about restoring, okay with that --- but to get in I need to turn off Find My iPad. BUT to do that, to get access to the settings, I need my Passcode.... So, it looks like my beloved iPad is a "worthless brick", as Mr. Pogue describes.Maybe there is no alternative besides the trashbin for my beautiful and daily useful iPad, but if there is, I would have wished for it to be in the book, so I'll remove a star.

This series, including the one for the iPad still offers the best manuals on the subject, and this is true for the iPad. It is full of detailed information accessible in comprehensive form. Provides a wonderful overview of the issues that can work for a first time user as well as an expert, If offers a variety of suggested for getting more out of the iPad, Probably more detail that the average reader want but there are few questions that aren't answered. However, I find myself using a Google search for an initial inquiry and then turning to this manual if I can't find the needed information or want more detail. The price is very reasonable.

I am a fan of David Pogue's. I think all of his works (I have/have read several) are very well done. There would be a huge void in the fields of his specialty if his works were suddenly withdrawn. If you own the device (iPad in this case), you will benefit from having his book that relates to it.His style is light hearted, and is fun to read. His works are well organized and easy to read, and, more important to me, to use as troubleshooting references. I know of no other iPad reference that includes the same material ... which is almost indispensable for any one who wishes to understand how to use, and, more important, how to get the most out of their iPad.

Pogue writes manuals like no one else. First class. World class. If only I could read it. I opened the manual and smacked in the face text that was unreadable. Magnifying glasses and similar devices do not help. THEY LIGHT GRAY TYPE IS VERY HARD TO SEE!!!!!! Why? Why? This the second missing manual of Pogue's that i have purchased. This is a comprehensive (and entertaining) training manual for anyone who buys an iPad Air 2 like I did. I didn't know anything about Apple products. This book had everything I needed to learn how to work with this tablet. My only complaint is that it was rather expensive for an e-book. I got the Kindle version so I could have it right on the Kindle app on the iPad Air 2 so that I could go back-and-forth as I read - implement things that I learned while reading. I have been working with it most of the day and have only covered 30% of the book. I highly recommend this book.

This is a very comprehensive book on the I pad. easy to read and understand. The I pad is actually quite easy to set up and use, but this book will give you further info that will help you to make the most of it. The I pad is a much cleverer piece of kit than you might imagine, so it is worth the extra cost of this book. The book is easy to understand and follow. Recommended.

Very useable and informative. Just what I needed as an 'Apple virgin', first time away from Android so it was really needed and appreciated.

Ideal manual as I have had my ipad for a year and still did not fully understand it. This book has been a great help - it covers everything and more.

I'm well acquainted with iMacs but found the latest iPad not easy. This Missing Manual is essential and gives detailed help.
