Will a hammer work on the crimpers?

I doubt it. Needle nose pliers work best, at least some type of pliers. It has to be crimped closed.

What type of SS is it (304?), what diameter is the wire (without the coating)

I don’t know the thickness but I can tell you this wire is terrible for picture hanging. It doesn’t bend and wrap around itself like regular picture frame wire. I cannot use it and should have reviewed it when I bought it.
