Makita 199553-5 Cyclonic Vacuum Attachment

An absolute must for either 18v or 40v Makita stick vacuums that are cordless.It's is built like a tank, doesn't add too much weight, is easy to use and install as like any other nozzle it is plug and play, and the 5 inches or so of extra length actually help you to stand up straighter when using the vacuum rather than hunch over slightly like with the stock vacuum.It allows for quick cleanups as it efficiently maintains a vacuum because of keeping the filter clean, thus the speed at which you can move the roller head is actually quicker as well.I've even used this with other plug in vacuums as well when alot of fine dust that could clog filters normally is going to be sucked up, but it is designed to be used on Makita cordless stick vacuums.I swear it improves battery life as well, even though the vacuum has to work slightly harder, it isn't starved for air because of a clogged filter.

DeWalt does not offer an inline cyclone like this. However I really wanted to make this work so I could save my filters when vacuuming ash out of my grill which is super tough on any filter. As you can see in the final pictures, the cyclone captured 90-95% of the ash, some made it to the DeWalt tank and a modest amount clung to the filter but could be blown out/off.This setup let me complete the entire grill cleaning without choking the filter. It does still need to be cleaned after each use but didn't lose much suction during use.This required some ugly PVC and shimming to make it work, but thats the way it goes. A must have accessory if you own or planning to buy the Makita Cordless Vacuum. It seamlessly attaches to the vacuum and the cyclone action makes gathering the debris easy and clean. Disposing the debris is easy due to easy snap function to open the bin. Best part is that most of the debris is collected in the cyclonic bin before it makes it to the main canister thus reducing how often you need to empty the main canister and clean your filter, while also prolonging life of the filter. Works really well on pet hair as well. Attaching it does make the vacuum heavy but the added functionality is totally worth it. Very highly recommended.

Overall this has been a good addition to my Makita hand-held vac which I wasn't in-love with before.We pick up a lot of dog hair and this has been a game changer for that task.It's not particularly robust in construction, nor does it store much but it does make a big difference functionally for certain tasks. A little overpriced for what you get but we use the vac all the time now whereas before it would fill with hair too quickly and be a pain to clean, now the hair just curls up and dumps out easily - just don't overfill as it's a bit of a pain to clear blockages if you allow them to happen. The clips could be more robust. Don't expect it to hold up to drops or other accidental abuse.

This little cyclone attachment has transformed my Makita stick vac into a serious cleaning tool. The best benefit is reduced loss of suction due to a clogged filter, not to mention having to clean said filter much less often. Now if Makita offered HEPA filters, the transformation would be complete.
