Joseph, A Long Obedience
Liam points out many things in the life of Joseph that should help point our lives to Christ instead or focusing on our circumstances. He experienced bitter betrayal by his brothers, unjust imprisonment by his owner, fecklessness by Pharoh's cup bearer. Even after being elevated to the second highest position in Egypt and surrounded by honor and luxury, he was alone.Yet through years of this he remained a faithful and godly. Liam skillfully shows the hand of God in Joseph's life and the life of his dastardly brothers, and by extension in ours, and also highlights the ways in which Joseph's life reflects the life of Christ.Be encouraged! God's sovereignty is always at work in our lives, and there are no relationships which cannot be redeemed. Read this book.

Great Insight Into the Life of Joseph
What a wonderful, easy to read account of the Life of Joseph. Liam Goligher blends the Old and New Testament to tell and teach you about one of the most endearing characters in the Bible. I would recommend this book to anyone desiring to learn more about Genesis, the history of the Jews or about the ancestral family of Jesus Christ!

Colourful
I am happy to recommend this biography by Liam Goligher on the life of Joseph as found in the Genesis account. As you would expect it is solid and reliable but also gives some great insight. I was always unsure why Genesis chapter 37 v 15-17 records a seemingly insignificant discussion with an un-named passer-by. Liam Goligher makes a good point about God’s providence, and when you think about it, of course it makes sense, logical really. However, I would suggest the authors best work is his commentary on Genesis chapter 38, an indecent proposal, it is brilliant! I don’t think I’ve ever read such a beautifully constructed piece on such a difficult chapter in the whole of the Bible. If you think you are beyond redemption this commentary makes it clear that God can transform the darkest heart.Goligher makes an important point about Joseph not being absorbed into the Egyptian culture, evidenced when his two sons were given Hebrew names. He also makes a comment about Joseph giving his brothers new coats when they go back to Canaan to give their father the good news. Ironically, it was because of a new coat given to Joseph the trouble escalated in the first place! It’s a good commentary and I found it useful, if there is any dis-appointment it is the authors criticism of a fellow evangelicals, I’m not sure it’s helpful. Finally, I love the book cover, nice touch with the almost imperceptible tear in the corner.
