Critical Viewing for Mexican Cinema lovers and B horror films
Before xenotransplantation became a medical reality, this group of film makers based a movie around the concept. I was surprised to see so much gratuitous nudity in a Mexican film from this era. Also there is a lot of rape , murder and gore. I only wish it had been maintained in the original language and given subtitles. If you keep you expectations reasonable, you will not be disapointed.

Spanish Languge version is heavily edited, English version is not
To begin with, since Amazon can't seem to distinguish between the various releases of most video titles, this is a review of the most recent DVD release from VCI which advertises itself as being the Mexican version with a bonus copy of the English language dub. These are presented separately and the video quality of both versions is similar - not perfect with some video artifacts, but the colors are solid and the image is definitely better than a VHS. What's weird is that the Spanish version is a very different cut, possibly a heavily edited TV safe version, with the actresses appearing in alternate clothed/covered takes in scenes that have gratuitous nudity in the English version, and with many of the more violent scenes cut entirely! So, basically, the elements that have given that this title it's well deserved reputation as a schlock classic are mostly missing in the original language version, making the hilariously badly dubbed English version the only version to watch... and even that version has a few moments that look like they may have been trimmed just a bit as well, as there's at least one brief scene that's present in the Spanish version but not the English, and other shots that look like they were cut short to remove what would have been flashes of full frontal female nudity. All that said, this really is a terrible movie with an incredibly dumb plot and special effects that are incredibly bad even by Mexican horror standards... well unless you include some real and very graphic footage of real human heart surgery that has been shoe-horned in despite not matching the surrounding footage at all. In the end, though, it's definitely one of those "so bad it's good titles" that will appeal to fans of bad cinema, so it's a real shame that with two different versions on a single DVD, neither is really the ideal presentation.

Crypt of Terror: La Horripilante Bestia Humana/Munecos Infernales (Night of the Bloody Apes/Curse of the Doll People)
Great Spanish-language, Mexican-made double feature. La Horripilante Bestia Humana aka Night of the Bloody Apes, made in the late 1960's, is a color film about a doctor/scientist who, with the best of intentions, tries to cure his son of a fatal ailment and with his treatment unintentionally turns him into a murderous, raping ape-man. A female wrestler and her detective boyfriend go about trying to solve the series of strange, BLOODY murders. My beef is that there is a LOT of blood. There is also stock footage of actual operations in all their GRAPHIC glory. The second film is better. Munecos Infernales aka Curse of the Doll People, made in the early 1960's,is a black-and-white film about a curse laid on a bunch of scientists/adventurers who steal an idol from some natives. They are then killed and turned into possessed doll people who go about killing the guilty parties with poisoned needles. The curse is orchestrated by an evil voodoo priest and his zombiefied henchman who looks like he has a wrinkled towel for a face. The actor who plays the voodoo priest is the most compelling character. The female doctor who tries to solve the whole mess is the strongest character, a welcome change from the usual damsels in distress from that era. I ordered the BCI/Eclipse DVD release. The quality of the DVD is very good, probably the best out there. It also has English-language alternatives. Highly recommended.

50 year old movie
50 years old, but labelled 2021 release. False advertising old films like usual Amazon.don't care if it's remastered, rereleased on a new format, or if it was given the mystery science theatre comedian voice over treatment. if i go in seeing a 2021 tag, it should actually have FIRST been made in 2021.

Pure trash - pure fun!
One of the last of the video nasties to have caught up on (I only watch them when I can get them uncut). And indeed this Nucleus Films DVD re-issue is the full uncensored version. And what a hoot it is. So outrageous and silly - but with great cheap gore and sleaze (and some of the gore is actually quite good). Widescreen 1.78:1 16x9 video. The wait for a proper quality release was worth it. Highly recommended for its entertainment value - just leave your brain at the door.

Night Of The Bloody APE!!!!!
A surgeon who's son is in need of a heart transplant abducts a gorilla and transplants it's heart into his son, the son then becomes a murderous monster, attacking and killing everyone he meets.Totally ridiculous but fun Mexican video nasty. Firstly there seems to be two completely separate stories here, the monster killings and the police detectives female wrestler girlfriend considering her career, it is strange because the first half the wrestling stuff takes up a lot of screen time but ultimately goes nowhere and means even less. The gore is quite strong at times (the open heart surgery is incredibly visceral and apparently real) but never offensive, even the supposed sexual violence isn't, he rips up women's clothes scratches at them a bit then runs away it's that silly. Shot in Spanish and the dubbing is awful and the acting is just about passable, the pacing is good once the monster starts his rampage but before has a strange feel little like a family drama. Story of the film does share a lot with Frankenstein- mad doctor, limping slave, monster rampaging- but goes a lot further than any Frankenstein movie till that point. As mentioned utterly ridiculous and over the top, but inoffensive and a fun way to spend 81 minutes. In the UK the 2012 Nucleus DVD release is uncut and is the one to get.
