Here be dragons
I remember reading the first book of this quartet many moons ago, so it was great to be able to read the whole cycle in one go. Robin Hobb never ceases to amaze me with the breadth of her worldbuilding and to venture further into the mysterious Rain Wilds was a spectacular treat. I will have to revisit the Liveship trilogy now, as well as an overdue return to the Fitz and Fool series!

A wonderful journey.
Having read The Liveships trilogy, I came back to the Rain Wilds Chronicles with a happy heart, to discover the fate of the dragons, and I was not disappointed. The tale was excellent, told in immaculate detail, and with characters so real as to almost appear before you. Old characters were welcomed back and new characters formed wonderfully unique personalities. My only criticism, and this is more a wish, is that I wanted to learn more about the Elderlings, more about Kelsingra, more about how Silver was used, and ultimately, more about both the future of the city and the past: where did the Elderlings go and have any of them survived? As an author myself, I know that the shape of a story reflects the interests and priorities of the singer. The song as sung, though, was wonderful and I heartily recommend it.

Compelling read
Having already enjoyed the Farseer trilogies and the Liveship Traders trilogy I couldn't wait to start the Rain Wild Chronicles. I now realise that I have read the books out of order - but it doesn't matter as these stand alone as well as threading through the larger theme. The characters are interesting - all the more so because they have flaws that are easily recognisable and each character's development is gradual and subtle (and believable). The narrative unfolds gently and the different threads draw you in, but these are page turners that the reader wants to savour. These books provide much of the background that explains the history of these inter-related novels as well as sorting out the challenges of the present. Her portrayal of the dragons' characters is as interesting as the people - dragons aren't perfect either!Robin Hobb has a writing style that is very accessible, but timeless. She would appeal to readers of all ages who enjoy this genre.Once you start, you will be hooked in and want to read all her books about this particular world and time. Be prepared to set aside large amounts of time for reading - I will want to re-read the lot!

Another Finely Tuned Adventure from Ms Hobb...
wow, would I love to have Ms Hobbs ability to tie in the plots of her various book series and sew up the details. The references in this book tie closely with the Liveship Trilogies and of course the Assasin series and Tawny Man. As I have read them all its hard to know whether a new reader would find these books so engaging, but I did find myself enthralled by the new characters and the amazing new realms they discover. The only slight blight for me is Malta. She doesn't work for me as a character in these books just as she didn't in the Liveships - for me she has no charm and I struggle to understand why she is a recurring character other than as a drag along with Reyn & Selden. Quite why Tintaglia made her an Elderling is beyond me! But that's a minor irritation and thankfully the new characters are much more likeable. As ever Ms Hobbs leaves just enough out there to spark off another trilogy with the continuing tales of the Dragon Keepers. How I wish...

Great story telling
These are the first books I have read by Robin Hobb and I will be reading more of her work. She has developed a very rich world which one can visualise in the mind's eye. The characters are rounded, interesting and one becomes emotionally connected with them. The story is gripping, flows very well and the language is rich. Very impressive writer and she has a good grasp of what is is to be human, good and bad and somewhere in the middle. The dragons were great too, she had a lot of fun writing them I feel.

Couldn't put these down!
Robin Hobb is my new favourite author - her books remind me a bit of Game of Thrones , but unlike them, she writes with a beginning, middle and end to the stories, which is something that GofT severely lacks in my opinion. There are plenty of twists and turns along the way and I get completely involved right up until the last page. I found it difficult using the kindle store to work out which order to read the different series in, but fortunately I seem to have got it right so far - I would definitely read the Liveship Trilogy before starting the Rain Wild Chronicles, although I started with the Farseer Trilogy, then Liveships and Tawny Man before the RWC. Some of the characters overlap into the different stories which is really nice. I don't know how Ms Hobbs keeps track of all the different stories going on in her "world" without getting them muddled! A great read.
