Want An A3 Light pad / Light box ? Buy this one
i you are looking for a good light pad / box look no further.I have had multiple other ones and they are all rubbish as the usb connection into the pad ALWAYS breaks.I have had around three to four A3 ones and two A4 ones all of which have had the same problem - the USB power connection into the lightbox. i even bought an extension to permanently leave plugged in so it wasnt being taken in and out all the time. They still broke over time.If you want to avoid throwing your money away I would recommend getting yourself a Vario Light pad tracing board in either A3 or A4. i have both and they both have a lead built into the light pad itself so there are no cheap micro usb pins to break. The A3 plugs into an extension lead that has a standard 3 pin wall plug on the end and the A4 one plugs into a lead with a standard size USB on the end so you can plug into a wall plug convertor or any usb outlet.no i dont work for Vario , i am just annoyed at the amount of other ones i had to go through to find a decent one and i want to save some other people the hassle (and money).Do your self (and the planet) a favour and avoid the built to break pieces of rubbish.(if they ever remodel it then I would recommend that they leave the black boarder off and do the measurements in black onto the board , and perhaps make the end of the pwer cord a USB plug instead of a wall plug, but i dont know if thats possible for the amount of power it needs. These are just my thoughts . Leaving those aside, overall it is great.)

A very nice addition to my studio... very detailed review
Just received my Vario A3 Lightbox 2 days after ordering :) It was very well packaged and upon opening the box I was amazed at how thin this light box is. It really looks very smart and not out of place with all my computer equipment in my studio. The dimensions to the edges of the light box are 475mm x 360mm. The actual illuminated area is a generous 435mm x 320mm, with the ruler markings encroaching 10mm along the top and side. This means that the unit will easily accommodate A3 paper which is 420mm x 297mm without the ruler markings showing through if you don't want them in the way.The light box has a short power cable coming out of the side which is about 600mm long with a female plug on the end, this then connects to a longer 1800mm cable which attaches to the transformer which has a moulded on 3 pin plug. So the full length of cable coming out of the light box is about 2.4m or nearly 8 feet in old money! The two connecting sockets for the cable are a good fit too.To switch the unit on I found a firm tap with the flat of my finger got the most consistent results. The same also applies to the brightness controls. As others have said, this unit can be very bright if you want it to be. The light is very even, which is important to me as I will also be using it for video work, photography (to prevent shadows appearing under small objects to be photographed) as well as for drawing. The bag it comes with is a well made white, non woven cloth and will protect it from dust and scratches when being stored. It is not padded and I would suggest anyone intending to carry it around a lot (e.g. students etc) should protect it from scratches with the supplied bag and then put it indide something more substantial when travelling.Compared to the competition this unit has adjustable brightness, a protective bag and is still the cheapest option. As you can tell, I am delighted with the product and hope it will last well beyond the 2 year warranty from Vario. My only minor criticism is that the 2 white slim-line clips for holding the paper are not long enough to reach the A3 paper when it is on the white illuminated area.

A3 Light Box Light pad.
I bought this just over a year ago and it's been a pretty useful item for my work.It offers a nice, bright screen with variable light intensities which are clearly discernible and easy to adjust; the only (minor) problem I have with the unit is it's sensitivity – it can take a couple of goes to turn it on as it really only needs the merest touch – but in the right place - something I've had to learn over time.On the positive side though, A3 is a good size for most of the graphic artwork I make; the opaque white screen is superior to some other, smaller light pads on the market which can have a rather patterned effect from the LED lights on low-light settings (I suspect these are intended more for crafters than fine artists). The brightness is strong enough for tracing through fairly thick watercolour paper (I tested it with a sheet of 140lbs) and it's great for general drawing papers like cartridge and Bristol board. The mains power supply is also a very important factor in my choosing this pad, as other manufacturers only supply USB cables which means relying on charger/adaptors, and these can be variable in quality and safety – some can overheat over an extended period. It`s a lightweight unit too, which makes it versatile – you can use it on your lap or on any stable, flat surface. The pad comes with a carry bag, which is really just a lightweight cloth affair; there are two plastic clips supplied for securing paper on the work surface.I've been quite happy with it so far; I've used it at home for a while, but I now have a space for it in my studio where it will really get a thorough testing.
