Handy set of pruners
I bought these pruning shears specifically because there was an out of control bush/tree thing trying to take over the flower bed by my porch. My husband wouldn't ever cut it (I found out later it was because he thought I planted it lol). But I wanted to have small a pair of pruning shears handy in the house to do things like this because all our gardening tools stay across the street in his shop. This pair would stay with me in the house. The ratcheting effect is okay it took a little bit for me to get use to it and I think if I had stronger hands it would have worked better but it cut a rather large (quarter sized+) tree for me. It took three or four good attempts but the shears got rid of that pesky tree for me. On smaller items like my knock out rose and althea bush one snip and they were history. I wasn't familiar with racheting pruners so my husband had to show me the concept behind them and he and I both agreed this was a good solid piece of equipment and nice to have in our home.*A sample of this product was provided to me free for testing and review. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me below. Thanks for reading.

Would recommend both the product and the company
These pruners function as advertised. There is less strain on my hands and they cut smoothly and cleanly. Beyond that the company is extrodinarily responsive. The first pair I received was obviously defective. I contacted the company and they responded within 4 HOURS. Sent me know pair immediately and and apology note as well. Would recommend both the product and the company.

Just OK so far
I found the pruners to work well enough, but I consider the construction to be a bit on the weak side. The mechanisms are loose, so there is a bit of shucking to the side when one tackles a difficult branch, perhaps that is the main flaw. The locking mechanism also is loose, occasionally locking up the works while in progress, and the ratchet action is sometimes slow to engage. The feel of the tool is light, but except for perhaps dropping it onto concrete, I would expect the aluminum to hold up well.

Highly disappointed in performance
Very disappointing that these are not quite working properly. I do believe it could be a problem with my particular tool but I can not physically determine the issue. To me, it seem to slip from the second to third "joint" occasionally which is not only sometimes painful, but dangerous when balanced on a stepladder. The tool just sort of "lets go" while squeezing and the handles come together in a snapping motion without any blade movement. Like slipping out of gear. I've spent much time trying various techniques but if that is the problem, then I'm just not doing it properly. In my opinion, there should not be some special technique to using a ratcheting tool. I use them often in terminating copper cables with lugs and various connector fittings in my line of work. It should not be difficult to use when gardening. And, I never cut anything with a diameter larger than 5/8". I do not have the original packaging or else I would return these and, as a very frequent Amazon purchaser for years, I have never returned a thing. In fact, this is the first negative post I've ever written.

Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money. There are 2 major problems with this product. One: the black plastic device that "locks" the shears closed, only works well when you are cutting upward. Whenever you aim the shears downward, as is often the case with my roses, the shears lock after I cut, requiring me to have to regularly unlock the shears. This is a real flaw, not just a nuisance. Two: they don't cleanly cut; I bought these because they advertised a nice clean cut that took pressure off my aging hands. The later is true: it takes less effort to cut than my old anvil pruners... but the stem has to be broken off frequently unless you cut a perfect 90 degree angle. Again. worthless with roses, and many bushed because a perfect 90 degree cutting angle is few and far between.I am 2 days late to return these to Amazon (crud), but I am putting my old anvil pruners back into service.

but I like them better than any of my previous shears
I ordered these shears after the gardening season, so I've used them only once, but I like them better than any of my previous shears. They fit comfortably in my hand and are easy to use, something my arthritic hands appreciate. One feature I didn't spot in the pictures on Amazon but do appreciate now that I've used them, is the serrations on the anvil part; they keep the wood from slipping or rotating and make for a secure cut. I also like the finger grip; it keeps the shears from moving around in my hand while I'm ratcheting down on the wood. My previous ones kept sliding backward, requiring me constantly to adjust my grip.

Great shears.
These ratchet pruning shears are really easy to use and give a good click when you make contact.Works well if you have hand pain. The lock is a little annoying as it drops into place a little too easily while you're using them, but other than that I like this product so much I was moved to review it.Thanks Better Living Made Easy. Your name is apt!

just a snip away
work very well. keeps me from having to use lobbing shears. when using them in a downward position the locking clip slides into place and you have to reposition the clip. to keep this from happening I use a rubber band . otherwise they work great. I carry them in my pocket as I walk the property ready to use on the wayward branches and palm fronds
