Jim Reeves & Ray Price - Country Music Classics

Throwback Classic Country -- not for everyone but for those who like Classic Country, a real gem.
Some of the comments suggest the video quality is low here. Yes it was shot, probably with 16 millimeter film back in the late 50's but if you like classic country this is the real deal. There are some noticeable video splices as they switch between performers and performances but it does not affect the enjoyment of the viewing (and what do you expect from film from 50-plus years ago?). What is amazing is they have this film and it's in clear color. Viewing this sort of reminds me when of when color TV was 'new' and how vivid color seemed on shows like Bonanza. Ray Price and Jim Reeves each add to the color scheme with their bright Nudie suits which is also a throw-back. Ernest Tubb, not featured on the title or pictured on the front of the DVD, performs an equal number of songs. He is dressed in his classic Texas Troubadour attire. The DVD constantly shifts between performances by Ray Price, Jim Reeves and Ernest Tubb which provides a variety show type feel to the DVD. The song selection for these artists suggest this was some sort of early 'off-label' offering designed to showcase some of their "B" side selections -- as you won't hear the signature songs or the more popular hits associated with these artists -- although Ray Price's tunes come the closest with "Don't Let the Stars Get In Your Eyes" and "You've Done Me Wrong" but for Reeves you won't hear "He'll Have to Go" or Tubbs' "Waking the Floor Over You" and Price's "Heartaches by the Number" But that's OK. They're all readily available elsewhere. Probably not that many folks out there these days who are looking for a real country classic collection like this, but if you're a throwback like some of us (me!) you'll enjoy this. As someone who thinks that Ray Price's contributions to country music over the years have been over-looked and somewhat under appreciated, I really enjoyed his performances on this DVD.

Jim Reeves /Ray Price Country Music Classics
This DVD of Jim Reeves and Ray Price Country Classics is fantastic. To be able to not only listen to country classics, but to actually see them perform is priceless. I enjoyed it very much and will continue to watch it time and again. I have been hoping for just this type of DVD for years and I discussed it with several of my friends over the years. Finally, someone came up with the goods, HOORAY!!!! Thank you Amazon for putting it in your catalogue of country music.

Jim Reeves , Ray Price & Ernest Tubb DVD
While the slicked down hair of the guys, and the fluffy dresses and pig tails of the gals presented fond memories of the 1950s, I was disappointed in that most of the tunes performed by these three great artists, with a few exceptions, were relatively obscure tunes. The three perfomers did get equal playing time throughout the DVD which I felt was a good thing.

Oldie but Goodie!
For anyone old enough to remember these musicians in their prime in the sixties era, and who appreciated their talent and music, this is guaranteed to bring back old memories and will be watched more than once. I played pedal steel guitar for some years in the eighties, and this DVD shows one of the best steel guitarists of all time in his youth, when he set the background sound for Ray Price. I was lucky enough to see Jimmy Day in 1979 in St. Louis. and he was great - his sound never grows old. Jim Reeves had one of the most amazing voices in country music- Ray Price became one of the elder statesmen in country music. Ernest Tubb is shown here too, and it was one of the few times that I got to watch him singing. All in all, this DVD is a treat!

Awesome!!
This is a beautiful reproduction of the singers from 1952-1954. It is worth the purchase and so good to hear the good old country music from some of the greats.
