Comparing new with old
I originally bought this gate back in 2018.I had it secured on both sides for a while, in the location I had it in at that point it worked that I was able to and had to because the opening was as wide as the gate could stretch. It was very sturdy. Now I do not have surfaces I can/want to screw into, but because the sides can lock at different positions it stands decently well on its own. The wall braces were easily removed by unlocking the pole and sliding them off. Now I just make sure the sides of the gate are butting up against something to prevent it moving. I am using it to deter a dog from entering an area so this is sufficient for my needs. We have an awkward area that I am using this in now but I needed another. After hunting for other options, I came back to this one. It's a good width, the ability to lock it in different positions is nice, and has the cat/small pet door.I saw other reviews saying that it was a new model but the pictures in the listing were the same as the old. So I just went with it. It is new/same/different than the one I bought in 2018. Let me compare.Position locks.2018 screws/twists from the top. 2023 screws/twists from underneath.Feeling: neutral, same job, different approach.Handle/lock.2018 a hinged cover that locks and unlocks with sliding mechanism. Easy to unlock and open in one smooth motion. As you can see I have it taped to be unlocked. I am using these gates for a dog so the lock is unnecessary as long as it latches. I could see with toddlers how this lock would not be sufficient. 2023 a sliding cover that locks and unlocks with a springed button. You push the button down and then you can slide the cover away from the opening and it stays pushed back until you push it forward into the locked position. The sliding cover is very stiff and not super easy to slide. The button isn't super easy to push. If you are trying to keep a toddler out this will be amazing because it'll take YOU 2 minutes to finally maneuver it so I child will have a difficult time for sure. I will tape the button down for my needs cause again I just need it to latch, not lock, but even with the tape it catches and I have to be very precise about not pushing it closed too far so that the lock doesn't try to engage.Feeling : I am very sad about this latch/lock update.Update : My husband didn't have as hard of a time with it as I have, larger hand/taller and therefore better angle? Who knows. I did figure out that I could unscrew the handle and remove the button/spring so now all we have to do is slide back and forth! perfect!Cat/small animal door within door.2018 too tall 7.25" wide x 10.25" tall. I, like many others, had to figure out ways to make it smaller so that the dogs (or toddlers?) couldn't fit through. 2023 door is 8.25" wide x 7.75" tall. Thank you for listening to your customer feedback and addressing this issue. My 35lbs dog cannot fit through the new gate cat/small pet door but could easily on the 2018 one. I do wish that they made a way to completely detach the door though. I will take advice from other customers and remove the pin with pliers. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet on the 2018 gate.Feeling : like it but left wantingGate directionality.2018 can only be swung in one direction, there's a welded-on tab at the bottom of the door to prevent it from swinging through. HATE. I always try to swing it in the direction in which I am walking, which I guess works 50% of the time. I'm finally starting to get used to thinking about it before pushing or pulling so I don't fall into it as I'm walking. But it sucks.2023 there are swivel tabs on the bottom of the door that apparently rotate so you can have it locked or unlocked. I haven't been able to get mine to swivel but I'm fine with that cause I don't need it locked and I love that the door now can open in either direction.Feeling : love the updateOverall I like that this company considered their customer feedback by updating the latch/lock for concerned parents of little humans and making the small door smaller for concerned parents of little furballs. 4 our of 5 stars. If the latch/lock moved more smoothly and the cat door was detachable it would have been a 7 out of 5. ;)

Great gate but.....
Needs anchors which the seller should supply. This is a great gate I had issues with the first one however the return process was easy and although I was told I'd receive the gate at a later date, the new one arrived within a couple days. The first gate I mounted, came off the wall the first night I put it up and the dog was able to get through into the livingroom.Fot the 2nd gate I used anchors and I configured the gate in a way that wouldn't allow the dog to bust through it. The best feature is the cat door, because my cat can walk in and out of the livingroom where her tree, food and cat bed is located. Overall the gate is efficient if you use anchors.

Old model was great, our dog barrels through new model
I bought one of these gates a couple of years ago. I finally installed it last spring when we got a puppy. It worked great. There were two round circles on either side of the gate latch that you had to pull up to open it. (Pic 2) That gate ended up getting broken (not the latch, the plastic at the bottom holding the sections together. I reordered same model and I got a plastic latch instead, which does not keep my dog out. He can just push on it the gate and the latch pops open. We even flipped the tab on the bottom that prevents it from opening in one direction and he can still push through it. I wish knew I wasn’t getting the same gate when I reordered. It has been a a huge frustration. It may hold in smaller dogs, or dogs that see a gate and walk away like out previous dog, but our 10 month old pup is 111 lbs and hates being enclosed.

The devil is in the details. Pic and Video included.
The media could not be loaded. This gate is definitely 5-stars for idea but 3-stars for execution. Here's what I know so far. First, the hinge joints are plastic. Having previously owned a large, strong chewer, I could see how that could be a problem if they got interested in gnawing on those joints or spent much time pushing/jumping on this gate repetitively, especially if the ends are attached to the wall.Second, this gate is actually kind of noisy. I have another metal walk-through gate that has a different kind of handle mechanism etc. and it is not nearly as "rattly". (I'll try to get a video of the sound.)Third, the smaller pass through door has a number of irritating design issues. One, it doesn't swing open all the way in either direction. It opens to about a 60 degree angle at stops, leaving it protruding precariously out into one or the other of the spaces it occupies. Second, it doesn't stay open by itself. I have attached a small bungie to hold it open. Third, the little knob that opens and/or secures this smaller door closed is awkward to operate because it moves in the same horizontal plane as the little door itself. I get that if it stuck out it would be a chewing hazard and can't readily offer suggestions for improvement here. It just seems like it needs to be different - somehow. Two other observations about this little door. As with the rest of the walk through portion of this gate, the little door is rattly. My small dog is very wary of going through it because when she touches it - the door might move (see above) and the whole thing makes noise. Finally, the little dog door is actually big enough for my larger dog (40ish lbs) to go through it. I wouldn't have believed it - but she absolutely can. (I included a yard stick in the pic for medium size dog reference.)Finally, ordering extensions for this gate is difficult. You get 3 sections with this product. If you need more than that I STRONGLY recommend calling the company directly and seeing if they have suggestions for which (if any) of their extra extensions will work for what you need. I bought extensions from another seller here on Amazon and that was a disaster. The product "Carlson 0400 24-Inch Extension For 1510PW Gate" Carlson 0400 24-Inch Extension For 1510PW Gate isn't the same color as they white gate and only 1 extension can be added to this main gate. You won't discover that until you get into the product literature that comes in the box with the extensions. I needed 3 extensions for how I originally wanted to use this gate and had to send them all back, paying for shipping.Despite the fact that I can't use this gate for solving the problem I was originally trying to solve, I'm keeping it. I need something and don't know of other options right now. I don't love it. YMMV.- edited title and to include video

Very impressed, I was a little worried about the quality of this product because of the price, but it has yet to fail. Our puppy seems to not even bother to jump on it now he has learned there's no way out. We did use much larger screws to attach to our wall, the screws that came with it did not seem sufficient. They were also loose in the box so we ended up missing a few anyways and would have needed to use different screws no matter if we planned to or not.

Poor quality.
I would give zero stars if I could. We did purchase for both pets and a baby, however this could not stand up to any dog. It is simple placed together so even when mounted properly, it can be pushed apart. The metal simply pops out of the plastic. Any animal who put more than 15# of weight on this can easy push it apart. Had they have taken the time to either rivet or made the plastic have a locking plug it would work and the extra cost would have been almost non existent to maker.

Buy it!
This gate is perfect, great built, but my 6 months old, 52 pounds golden retriever still passes in the cat door.

If the screws are tightened, I found it difficult to adjust the sections, if they are loosened too much the whole thing falls apart. Works well if you don't have to adjust it too often.
