The REAL "Special Forces" watch.
I have always been a big fan of G-Shock watches, since Casio already makes an incredible watch for a great price, but the G-Shocks take it to another level. I bought two G-Shocks after graduating from boot camp back in 2010. This particular one is just now getting replaced, and the other one is still going somehow. Aside from one minor change, this is exactly how I remember it being. PROS Battery life is insane, and far exceeds the estimated lifespan. I believe when I bought my first DW6900, I believe the manual said that the battery life should be about 7 years. I don't know what I did to it, but mine lasted almost 15 years. I have another model that is still going from 2010. They're rugged without compromising comfort. The straps take a bit of breaking in to get the stiffness out, but once that's done, you barely even know it's there. This is light and comfortable enough that I wear this to bed, in the shower, while swimming, basically 24/7. There's rarely a time when I'm NOT wearing this watch. These keep time with extreme precision. After about a week of wear, I have gained about .25 seconds when compared to my phone clock, since when I set the time on my watch, I made sure everything down to the second was synced up. This may result in needing to make a minor adjustment a couple times a year, but maybe not even then. I know a lot of people like the inverted, fully black display, but I prefer the standard screen that this watch has, I find it a lot easier to read quickly. I also find that when backlit, this display is far easier to read in the dark than the inverted display. CONS I believe my old DW6900 had a steel buckle, and this new one is plastic. If that's the case, it's a bit disappointing that the price of the watch has gone up a bit, but they've changed out a metal part for a plastic part. Having said that, the buckle is easy enough to change out for a steel one. VERDICT There's a reason that, despite all these watch brands that claim they're "Special Forces rated watches", the only one I know of that is actually used by most American special forces is the G-Shock, specifically the DW6900. They trust this watch because it's easily affordable, it keeps time with precision and accuracy, it can stay on someone's wrist without irritation for weeks on end, and it can take a serious beating and keep going. My last DW6900 survived firefighting trainers, tear gas, two deployments, and so much more. I am looking forward to the adventures I'll have with this watch on my wrist!

Really great solid watch!
Great classic watch! Comfortable and brand new as described! They sell a metal stainless steel guard on here as well for a few dollars more. Highly recommend! Keeps it from scratching and looks really good on the watch!

Bargain watch, great appearance and functionality, with the Casio 'G-Shock' imprimatur
Great watch and what a bargain it is. Casio first introduced the 'G-Shock' brand with their 1983 GW-5000C model (today's Casio G Shock GW-5000-1JF is practically the same thing), famously designed by a Casio engineer around the 'triple ten' concept: 10 year battery life, water resistant to 10 bar, and survive a 10m fall. Remember the television commercials, where the Casio watch is struck by a hockey stick and slammed into the net (and keeps on ticking...)? Today, the G-Shock brand continues, with a multitude of variations and styles, all rugged and providing different combinations of digital display, chronograph type functions, water and shock resistance, and more. Frankly I purchased this simply to see if I would like wearing a watch of this style. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that I like wearing it, it's comfortable, and I like the styling. A lot. I selected this particular model because it was (at the time) the least expensive G-Shock model sold on Amazon. There are one or two others close to it in price, and then there are models that are much more expensive. All the way to several hundreds of dollars for the latest, fanciest and most limited edition models. There are people who collect these things and keep track of all things G-Shock, track the variations on web sites and blogs. It's developed into quite the product line for Casio, but what I like is that the inherent ruggedness and functionality of the watches has still been preserved. Even if the watches are now all** made in China (** there are a couple of high-end models still manufactured in Japan, but only a couple as far as I've been able to determine). This has a very legible display that shows date and time, along with the expected features of stopwatch and alarm. I haven't made use of the other features but they are not difficult to use if desired. The display can be briefly illuminated at night time by pressing the gray button just below the display. This watch does the job for me. I'm 100% satisfied. I'll probably buy another, either to get a slightly different style for some variety, or even just to have a backup in case I damage or lose this one. Or to give as gifts. The season is approaching, after all.

It’s Old-School G-Shock
It’s a sturdy watch, period; it will take a beating and go to hell and back. It ain’t fancy, doesn’t have all the latest features - but it tells time, keeps the day and date, has an alarm, a stopwatch and a timer. That right there is what people need a watch for better than 95% of the time. It looks big in the pictures but is actually one of my smaller G-Shocks, very light, and the wavy strap design is great for letting air in and keeps it secure yet loose (wearing a watch too tight results in some real funk building up on your skin from sweating and sloughing old, dead skin cells). The electroluminescent backlight is perfect - highly visible and makes the face easy to read at night. Read the booklet it comes with - there’s a few little tweaks they did on this watch that some of my expensive, fancier watches don’t have, especially with the alarm and timer, like making the timer auto-repeat, making the alarm go off on a specific date of the month each month, or making an alarm also triggers the backlight, etc. Fun fact: this is sometimes called the “Mission Impossible 2” watch - Tom Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, is wearing a modified version of it (mostly just removed the branding and button labels) when he infiltrated the office building to steal the Chimera virus. His version triggered a tracking device - yours never will! One more thing: it’s never a good idea, even with a rugged watch like this one, to take it into a hot shower or a Jacuzzi. Heat causes the metal backing to expand and can cause water leakage. It’s waterproof to 200 meters of static pressure, yeah, but not heat-proof! For anything else involving getting wet, take it with you and have a blast - it’ll still tell you the time when you’re done.

Legendary G-Shock awesomeness!!
It's hard to begin a review about an item that I love so much. If you would like the history of the G-Shock brand that begins all the way back from 1983, here's the official link: [...] Now, about this specific model the DW6900-1V is a model that has been around since the early 2000's and is considered to be an entry level unit in the G-Shock family of products. Here are the official specs from the casio website: Shock Resistant 200 Meter Water Resistant EL Backlight with Afterglow Flash Alert Flashes with buzzer that sounds for alarms, hourly time signal, countdown timer time-up alarm 1/100 second stopwatch Measuring capacity: 00’00”00-59’59”99 (for the first 60 minutes) 1:00’00-23:59’59 (after 60 minutes) Measuring unit: 1/100 second (for the first 60 minutes) 1 second (after 60 minutes) Measuring mode: Elapsed time, split time, 1st-2nd place times Countdown timer Measuring unit: 1 second Countdown range: 24 hours Countdown start time setting range: 1 second to 24 hours (1-second increments, 1-minute increments and 1-hour increments) Other: Auto-repeat Multi-function alarm Hourly time signal Full auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039) 12/24 hour formats Accuracy: +/- 15 seconds per month Battery CR2016 Approx. battery life: 2 years Module 1289/3230 I have always been the guy that never wanted to spend a ton of money on a watch. Part of the reason is because I have a job where my watch was prone to constant damage and bruising. So like many folks I would go to Walmart and pickup a 15 dollar watch every year. I was going through watches at about that rate. Until about 2 years ago I saw a UPS driver wearing a G-shock watch (not the DW6900, but a different model). He went on to tell me all about the watch and how much he loved everything about it. From the design, to how well it fits on his wrist, but the most important aspect of all which is how durable, touch, and well built the watch is. So after listening to him, I decided to purchase this G-shock and have never looked back. Everything about this watch is amazing. Simple in functions compared to more upscale G-Shocks, but for me that's a plus. I don't need to know sea levels or faces of the moon. I just need a timer for daily tasks and a Chronometer for exercise. Plus this watch has a fantastic feature that many digital watches no longer have, even the upscale time pieces: The feature is that no matter which watch mode you are in, the time is always displayed on the upper right portion of the screen. This may seem small in importance, but believe me when you get started using the watch you will wonder how you managed without the function in the first place. It makes it so convenient to not have to switch between modes just to know what time is it. I find it very strange how this function is not available on most digital watches now... The only two minor complaints that I have about this watch are: 1-) If you have small wrists you may prefer the smaller model 5600 which is the all time classic still available, and fits much better on smaller wrists. 2-) The "G" imprint on the light button is not colored... Again this is a small dislike that to others may not think it is. In my opinion Casio could have colored it red for an extra 3 cents on the cost of the watch if that... To wrap up the review, for the price of this watch there is no better watch out there. This watch will go through hell and back with you. You may not be as tough as this watch is. It is standard issue for many military and law enforcement agencies around the world. Here's a link to Google pictures of military units wearing g-shocks all over the world, thanks: [...]

Great watch for the money!
This is a great watch. Got it for a birthday gift and with amazons expediate shipping, it came within one day of ordering. Everything functions really well and theres a reason why so many service members choose this watch over other expensive brands. Ive only had it for a few weeks, but it keeps time extremely well and everything else such as the timer and stopwatch and alarm work very well. Only complaint is the the little G button on it. Mine seems a little looser than my dads G shock. but it still works well and theres no issue. so im sure its just a very minor cosmetic detail but thats the only reason for giving it 4 stars. realistically it could very well be 4.5 stars. if youre on the fence about this watch just go ahead and buy it. Its not a cheap copy but its a real deal casio.

Built like a tank — classic G-Shock
This is one of those watches you buy once and just keep wearing. I’ve had a few watches, and this one is easily the most reliable. It’s tough, simple, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. You don’t have to baby it at all — work, gym, outdoors, it handles everything without a problem. The display is clear, the buttons are solid, and the backlight is actually useful in the dark. Battery life is great too, so you’re not constantly thinking about it. It’s definitely on the chunkier side, but that’s part of the G-Shock look. Once you get used to it, it just feels right. If you want something durable, low-maintenance, and proven, this is an easy choice.
