Love War & the Ghost of Whitey Ford

Heard the theme song from "Saving Grace" and I went on the hunt, that song is just too cool. Overall can't say the CD is more than average but a couple songs hit the mark and worth having alone just for Saving Grace.

I'd heard most of the tracks from "Love, War & The Ghost of Whitey Ford" on Pandora and had enjoyed everything I'd listened to. What I didn't realize at the time is that this is essentially a concept album where most, if not all, the tracks are anthems for the non-elite, downtrodden American.Everlast's remake of "Folsom Prison Blues" isn't just a hip-hopped take on a classic track, but a deliberate choice that works with the rest of the album. He explores everything from suicide ("Anyone") to war ("Letters Home from the Garden of Stone") as an everyman--or, at least, the lower-class American everyman. The music and Everlast's husky voice will catch you, but the lyrics make this a standout.I highly recommend picking up this album if you can find it.

I've had an ear out for Everlast ever since his House of Pain days. The Whitey Ford album was a good look for him. This record goes in another direction but works none the less. He starts off with a compelling first track "Kill the Emperor", "lets stop the War and feed the poor kill the emperor". The 2nd cut "Folson Prison Blues", is reminiscent of the House of pain days.My favorite songs are (6) "Friend" which is the most introspective song and strikes the chord of emphatic truth, "Lovers come and go but right now I need a friend". The (13) track "Weakness" is vintage country blues and another favorite of mine. The beat and rythm of (14) "Dirty" makes it hot, track (4) "Anyone" is solid also. The final track (17) "Saving Grace" I think expresses societies ills and failings "sitting by the phone waiting for the Lord to send my calling" is very powerful.His album motif is a bit unusual coming from a so called "Whitey Ford". I think Everlast has reinvented himself since going solo and continues to do just that "thankful for the gifts the angels gave me" He was more of a rapper than a singer on "White Ford sings the blues" this one is more singing than rapping.Being a firm believer in the livingstone used to make a Temple without the use of any metal instrument,eternal in the Heavens. I find it interesting the word "stone" appears in the title of 3 of the songs on this album. (3) "Stone in my hand" (10) "Letters Home from the garden of stone" and (12) "Throw a stone". Mere coincidence, perhaps not.Most hip hop heads probably won't appreciate this piece of work,some might not even call it hip hop but I like its diversity, thus the 4 star rating.

You feel him. This is only my second cd purchase of Everlast. I bought White Trash Beautiful and liked it. Now I'm working my way backwards. "Love, War & The Ghost of Whitey Ford" is an amazing cd. I love the deep, scratchy, romantic voice. The tunes are deep. I find myself just playing this cd and stopping to really listen and say "Hey, I really like that song!" The more research I do the more I like him. Working backwards "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues" is next. I hear that it's even better. Looking forward to it.

i bought this CD mostly for the theme from the T V show Saving Grace - last track. i don't normally like the type of music characterized in the rest of the album; however, i have to say that, in this album by this artist, i really enjoyed the message and the artistry of the whole thing - but i wouldn't suggest it for kids. i esp. enjoyed the political humor of "Naked" - do you suppose we could get it played at the next local "tea party"? (Sorry, couldn't resist!- GRIN!)

I have been looking for his music for a while,loving "put your lights on" from the Santana album. Much to my delight, I was searching for the theme song from "Saving Grace" to play at my birthday party, and purchased this CD. I cannot take it off my portable player. This rocks, this raps, well written, and at times I'm humming one of the songs without knowing it.BUY IT. You will be surprised and pleased.

This was a gift from me to me. I bought it primarily because I loved the music from "Saving Grace" and I had to know all the words to the song. I was not disappointed. Although the other music and songs are a bit "much" for my taste, Everlast is truly an outstanding and unique artist.

I liked this guy with Santana and on Saving Grace so I thought I would get this album for the Saving Grace theme and get to check his work out.Everlast's voice is like no other. some of his songs are a bit violent sounding and bit on the rap side-neither of which I care much for. Some songs are pretty good like Die In Yer Arms. If you want the song Saving Grace try this. You get that song and 16 more you might like.

I first heard this artist on a Santana album. Woah what a unique voice and talent. I cant get enough of listening to Everlast

eigentlich hatte ich den guten erik schrody nach seinem letzten album "white trash beautiful" schon abgeschrieben - das album war zwar keineswegs schlecht, aber im prinzip nichts anderes als ein aufguss der ersten beiden scheiben.umso überraschter bin ich von diesem werk! erik scheint neuen elan und neue inspirationen gefunden zu haben. vieles klingt neu und ist dennoch "typisch everlast". zb schafft er es, der coverversion des "folsom prsion blues" seinen stempel aufzudrücken ohne das vermächtnis des johnny cash zu beleidigen - allein dafür kann es nur daumen hoch heißen!das absolute highlight - und sein vielleicht bester song - ist aber "stone in my hand". treibend, mit wütendem text und dennoch eingängig und mitreissend.Die Text-Palette reicht umfasst wieder sehr Persönliches als auch Politisches ("Kill the Emperor") - alles mit der bekannten Emotionalität von Everlast durchsetzt.einziges manko meinerseits: 2-3 nummern weniger hätten dem album gut getan. aber nichtsdestotrotz gehört diese scheibe in das regal jedes musik-liebhabers!

Haben lang schon nix mehr von Everlast gehört, beim Herumstöbern bin ich auf diese CD gestossen, schon etwas älter, hat aber gute Kritiken bekommen, also los, bestellt....und tatsächlich, gewohnt gut, SEINE Interpretation von "Folsome prison blues" alleine ist schon die CD Wert,"stone in my hand" bohrt sich ins Ohr und bleibt den ganzen Tag drin....wieder eine klasse CD, die momentan fast in Endlosschleife läuft
