Review Soldiers' Stories: A Collection of World War II Memoirs is a "must read" collection of personal stories of America's servicemen and servicewomen as told by their families. It depicts their valor, patriotism, and their day-to-day exploits as well as their families' home-front efforts. And it portrays their indefatigable human spirit. Once you start reading this colorful mosaic of individual memoirs, you will not be able to put it down. It is laced with colorful illustrations by Ken Miller and a mix of great color photos and black and white photography of that very special era. It is America at its best. Asking what did Dad do in the war? leads to an incredible trip and book
This gem of a book is wonderful on so many levels. Not only does it honor the military service and memory of Myron H. Miller, father of the authors, but also of so many others. Sons, daughters, grandchildren, and friends of dozens of individuals--some who survived the war, some who didn't--shared memories and pictures. The book is beautifully laid out, with extra illustrations woven throughout by Ken Miller, one of Myron Miller's sons. It also includes the very poignant story of four of the siblings visiting Europe in order to follow their father's footsteps with the 83rd Infantry Division, and learning how very much alive is the thankfulness of those who live in the areas those young soldiers freed from the Nazis. The Millers were welcomed by local historians and WWII reenactors, sharing information and meals, and sometimes their very homes with Americans whose father helped rescue their countries.

A journey through the lives of those brave Soldiers of WWII. While reading this book, I felt like I was at a family reunion reliving all the experiences and memories of this most difficult military encounters of US history. Seeing the pictures, hearing their stories of bravery, pain, harsh environment, loss and victories. Dr. Miller has truly brought it all back to life, for us to learn, love and remember.

This is an amazing book! The history lessons, real-life accounts of miracles and hardships, and connectedness of veterans and their families make this book a must read and share. It is not only a celebration of service and sacrifice, but an engagement of pride and honor. I found myself looking for the next volume as soon as I finished reading this collection. There is so much to learn and to feel with the combination of words and pictures. I highly recommend Soldier' Stories for families, schools and community groups.

Hard to put down
Hard to put down once you get started. So many WWII soldiers never talked about their time in the service, so these are mostly untold stories.

A Must Read
If you remember a relative who refused to talk about his/her experiences during WW II, purchase and read this book. None of them would talk about it because they wanted to "try" to forget.
