CULT PHOTO BOOK FOR JAZZ LOVERS. UNMISSABLE!!!!!
Received my copy today, June 1st!!! The first word that comes to my mind when looking at the photos on the book is intimacy. It’s obvious that the strongest asset Leloir showcases as a photographer is to capture life on the backstages and out of the theatres with the artists: John Coltrane is practicing on his hotel room, Nina Simone playing with kids in a pool, Ella is relaxing on a boat, Quincy Jones and Sarah Vaughan are listening to music on Jones’ Paris apartment, Miles is enjoying a fine day at the beach, also Gillespie... My absolute favorite is Bill Evans playing with that big coat… What’s most refreshing about the book is that I never seen these photos before, nor on internet nor in catalogues, etc. This guy was secretive with his work, mostly doing galleries and books, not that much press, so I believe when the editor says lots of these photos are published for the first time. As a whole, I’m having a satisfying experience. The paper is thick, the cover is hard, and some writing is real cool, mostly Quincy Jones’ introduction. Highly Recommended.
