More kinds of beautiful buttons to make than I realized existed
Instructions for making buttons to make to dress up your clothing (don't you hate the blah plastic buttons on ready-to-wear clothing?). If you enjoy making recreations of historical styles, there are lots of suitable button types here (for example, my 16th century style Spanish loose gown closes with thread-covered ball buttons (made on wooden craft beads). There are instructions for buttons formed on other wooden forms, on rings (like the Dorset buttons popular from the 17th to the mid-19th century), buttons covered with crochet or Teneriffe or sols lace or embroidery. Too many kinds to list--although the preview of the book on Amazon will show the table of contents. Well worth it.

Clear, concise instructions
Line drawings of steps and color photographs of examples make this a great book for re-enactors, costumers, or fiber artists--anyone who wants to know how to make a variety of buttons for historic costumes or to embellish contemporary work. I'm recommending that my guild purchase a copy for its library. (I'm not sharing my copy!)

Good book. What a world!
Very nice book with good instructions and many different types of buttons. I do wish it was not a paper back but it is large enough that it can sit mostly flat.

Perfect for making thread buttons
Great book! Gina Barrett is the expert in this field, and this book is full of clear directions and color photographs for making beautiful thread covered buttons. I appreciate the historical references and examples discussed in the book. I also recommend her dvds.

Expensive for print quality
I was happy to pay the price for a craft book, but disappointed to find it was a poor quality "print to order" done by Amazon. The pages are rather flimsy paper, and some of the photos suffer from reproduction on an inferior surface. Hence loss of a star...The book content:-There's literally tons of ideas in the text. I bought it for Dorset button techniques, but the other styles are tempting me to have a go despite not being very good with a needle! I like that the patterns are shown as diagrams rather than photos, but some of the supporting diagrams don't have explanation enough, so I guess I'll be forced to tackle YouTube for a few explainers.Just as a final comment, the "passementerie" of the title is only defined as braiding and decorative edgings in all online dictionaries. I can't find a definite tie to it meaning "button making".

Allow me to button in here
OKAY. So I bought this book thinking it wouldn't be as great as it is. It's bloody fantastic. If you need historocally appropriate buttons or fastenings or just something to spice up that fantasy costume, this is your book.No more plastic four hole buttons on your medieval shift!!

A stunning workbook on buttons
This really is a manual. It has inspirational illustrations and clear diagrams for creating a very wide range of buttons. It covers cloth covered, knotted, buttons from rings and much more. It was better than I anticipated and I am delighted with the purchase.

Excellent book - however £19.99 seems expensive for a paperback book
I do think £19.99 was a lot of money for a paperback book!It is an excellent book tho.
