These are cable-actuated shifters, not hydraulic.

Should work with any Shimano or micro new rear mech 9 or 10 spd

Cam this be used with a 6500 Ultegra 2x9?

I truly believe you wouldn't have issues - I've been using these 2x9 shifters with Dura Ace 7700 Front & Rear Derailleurs and cassettes (same generation 9 speed group as Ultegra 6500). They work so well that I've chosen not to find 7700 shifters to match the group (definitely wouldn't get them for anywhere near the price of the Micronews).
