Product Description Lily Parker is a sophisticated American magazine editor who is on a business trip in Europe with her outgoing best friend Susan Lawson. Susan convinces her to travel from Venice to Paris by train, instead of by plane. They board the Orient Express, where they hope to find romance. Instead, the atmosphere reminds Lily of a train trip 10 years earlier, when she was a 19-year-old college student traveling through Europe with her friend Stacey. On that trip, she met Alex Woodward, an aristocratic Englishman whom she courted, and then never heard from again. On the present day trip, Lily unexpectedly runs into Alex again on the train, who admits that the rendezvous is no coincidence. Enraged over the past, she refuses to talk to him. Through flashbacks, their past story is slowly revealed. They fell in love on a train to Nice and agreed to travel together. Alex wanted to marry her, but his friend Sandy assured him his father would never approve. While having dinner one evening, Alex was excused by one of his father's friends, and never returned. In the present, Alex convinces Lily to have dinner with him, but past conflicts causes her to leave prematurely. She later returns, deciding to give him another chance. They find out they were both married for five years and then divorced, but only Lily's marriage produced a child. Alex reveals that his father pressured him into another marriage, and that he never regretted anything more than leaving her. The conversation soon escalates into them re-starting a passionate affair, but the next morning Lily makes clear that she has no desire of rekindling with him. They go into different routes, until Alex decides to follow her to Paris. Meanwhile, Lily regrets her decision of sending Alex away. She fears she will never love someone again, and thinks the solution is marrying a man she is meeting in London. One day, however after wondering around Paris, Alex finds Lily in a Parisian restaurant with Susan and Lily's young daughter. Review Doesn't stint on glossy wrapping John J. Cheryl Ladd Made the Movie Work!
I was never much for the Charlies Angels. I never found the acting better than average. But when I first saw this movie in the 1980's, I realized that Cheryl Ladd is a very fine actress.Ms. Ladd had a very difficult role in this film. She had to be young and carefree in the flashbacks, and mature and troubled in the action . She had to be angry and flustered; sad and mad; happy and longing; thoughtful and rash. All of these attributes were thrust onto Ms. Ladd's character, Lilly. And Ms. Ladd exuded all of these attributes in a dazzling way. Lilly's sidekick, played by Ruby Wax, was also very, very good. The supporting role of Alex, played by Stuart Wilson, was also quite strong; only eclipsed by the ladies. The movie is a 1980's retro to the 1950's, with some melodramatic music, but also with a modern kick from Elton John and Jim Croce.Romance on the Orient Express was the rare type of movie that my, now belated and beloved, Mother and I could both enjoy.I watched it first in the 1980's and only again this evening. I rate both viewings highly.

Destiny Corrects Even Forced Errors
Two happy, carefree people meet while traveling in Europe, and almost immediately fall in love. Their prolonged vacation enables them to live together in Paris and enjoy the intimacy of their lives. One of the two is confronted by a family demand that requires him to abandon his newfound love affair. Time passes, as it always does, and the audience is treated to an exhibition of how a miracle comes into being, in defiance of the laws of reality.A most beautiful story of love, commitment, honesty, integrity and faith in the human spirit.

Mixed Feelings
This movie kept my interest. I will say that for it. I struggled with it because the guy you're supposed to root for is a liar and a cheater. They drag out the reason he left her for way too long and it still doesn't explain why he just didn't tell her. Then she never tells him she's pregnant or tries to find him for an explanation. The male lead comes off way to self absorbed and he physically shakes her twice. I wouldn't call this one romantic so much as dysfunctional.

Mindless
While this was pretty predictable the costumes were gorgeous. But aside from that there was little else. The orient express was sumptuous, but that was all. You never believed the characters and their actions, a nice way to enjoy an empty evening

Barry Stokes
