Geratherm Analogue fever thermometer without mercury classic XL

This thermometer seems to need to be in place a little longer than perhaps a mercury type. However, it is easier to read than a standard mercury type.

I expected this to behave like a mercury thermometer so initially thought it was faulty. It is very slow but gets there in the end. What I thought was an air bubble in the column just above the bulb isn't, but I was blaming this for it not appearing to work. Below is the explanation I received from PISPO Ltd. "The little bubble in the thermometer over the small glass part is the"heart" of the thermometer called maximum-system. Without this little bubble the level of the Galinstan will not stay on the measured value and you could not read the correct temperature. This thermometer contains Galinstan, which is not so heavy as mercury. More and faster movements are necessary to shake down the liquid (15 to 20 rapid wrist movements).We recommend you do so after taking the temperature, when the thermometer is still warm. Putting the thermometer under cold water won't bring the liquid down, only shaking it (like flicking water out of your hands) will bring the Galinstan down" Another tip I learned from another review is that the liquid can be brought down very quickly by spinning it in a sock [but avoid getting to close to furniture as I broke my first one!!!]

Good quality product

The one I got is impossible to shake down! Absolutely nothing happens. It was on 36.2 C when I got it and there it stays, no matter how hard or how long I shake it. Tried to use it anyway to see if the temperature changed but it is constantly on 36.2. Also wondering about the magnifying glass? Ehum... where is it? Very difficult to read, don't really get the magnifying claim? I am very disappointed, I had been recommended this thermometer for measuring my basal temperature every morning but to me it seems useless. Edit: OK so I got that you have to put it into the clear case to get the magnifying effect... my bad, haha. Also wanted to say that it was a quick delivery, no problems there! I have since I wrote the review tried the sock trick (maybe I read that on amazon.com reviews?) and it worked for me. Put the thermometer in a sock and swing it around. Very silly. Not so sure though how accurate the thermometer is anyway, I just tried it and my temp just sitting down for a few minutes was 35.9C and that seems way too low. Usually not even my morning temp is that low.

Quick delivery. easy to read. Wanted an more reliable thermometer as have two digital ones that give total different readings.

It's a good one.You have to shake it hard,but this isn't a problem.I prefer this one to the modern that I don't trust.You can read easily the temperature.

No amount of shaking will make it go below 38C. Temperatures, checked against digital counterpart, vary by 10C to 20C inconsistently. Worthless for any purpose.

Es lo más parecido a los termómetros de mercurio que empleábamos cuando éramos pequeños, emplea otro componente, en este caso el galio que se comporta similar al mercurio (el mercurio siempre será mejor pero está limitado su uso de forma doméstica). Comparándolo con la moda actual de termómetros digitales, este termómetro tiene como ventaja la fiabilidad de la medición, que entiendo que es un dato muy importante si lo que queremos es controlar la décimas de temperatura y saber si tenemos fiebre o una leve febrícula. Como contrapartida, requiere tener un poco más de paciencia ya que se debe tener unos minutos colocado para que pueda realizar la medición y una vez hemos terminado hemos de moverlo para que el galio baje (si ves que te cuesta, un truco es ponerlo dentro de un calcetín y hacer circulos con él). La marca es de muy buena calidad, de varios tipos que he probado es la mejor que he probado.
