so enjoyable
A fabulous story of a life worth sharing.I am a little surprised that it was not mentioned that there is a hospital building at Cedar Sinai donated by Max Factor in Los Angeles.Reminds me “ to whom much is given much is required “

A Brilliant Read!!!
This book is for anyone who loves Hollywood history from the early silent movie days and up through the Golden Era. I never knew there was a real Max Factor or how much he contributed to the look of actors in film and television. Before him, there was only grease paint. He revolutionized the beauty industry and made make up something every woman could wear. His beginnings as an apprentice wig maker and make up man to the Russian opera company and Tsar's court are fascinating. His whole story is intriguing and inspiring. Mostly well written with only a few dangling sentences. Great vignettes about some of the early movie stars and personalities. I loved this book!

Positive perseverance
Loved the determination of this man to constantly change with the times and tirelessly find solutions to new challenges. For once a positive family business model with all sharing the vision and the work. Inspiring.

I had no idea…
First I didn’t not realize Max Factor (Faktor) was a person, which after reading his life story is a ridiculous thing to not know. The man was a genius and basically THE makeup king for all of early Hollywood. How he, in his own labs, was able to create exactly what was needed for every phase of motion pictures is mind boggling. His passion for quality and integrity of the products and his continuing innovation is inspiring. It makes me very sad to see how in the end the large conglomerates swallowed up what I now believe was one of the most amazing companies in our history. If you have an interest in glamour, but also in reading about a man who truly realized his dreams from incredible beginnings, I highly recommend this book.

Lackluster Biography of Movie Makeup Pioneer
Max Factor led a fascinating life from his escape from Czarist , immigration to America and founding of a cosmetic dynasty centered on Hollywood's movie industry. The author, Fred Basten got the facts of Max's life down nicely but the book lacks bright-animated narration that would made the story more engaging and compelling. A nicely done bit of academic research that plodded through Max Factor's life without the zing or spark it deserved.

He was a real person!
I was amazed to learn that Max was a real person who immigrated to the USA. His work changed the way women see themselves. Hurray for Max Faktor, who became a brand name as Max Factor, who had the vision and drive, the knowledge and experience, to make stars in Hollywood shine at their brightest.

FABULOUS READ!
Who knew that a small statured man from Poland, who created amazing looks for the Czar of Russia, would have such an impact on people across the globe. This is a story of “never giving up” even when you’re knocked down a lot. I was touched by his life story and how kind Max was to the young new stars of Hollywood. How he always used natural products in his cosmetics and that John Wayne wore one of his hair pieces and Loved that it made him feel good about himself.A great read.Buy the book and be pleasantly surprised.A 5 Star read

Excellent history of Max Factor make-up
Not only does this book give an interesting history of the person of Max Factor and the family business, but is also an insight to the development of movies from the earliest days. I didn’t know that the advent of colour movies was delayed by the problems with finding make-up that worked!
