I predict a riot...
Hype, hype, hype, and errr a bit more hype. "Grown up" music these days (by that, I mean indie/alt rock etc) is turning into just as much of a publicity contest as the Pop-Idol stuff. Another year, another clutch of 5-star debut albums from NME - "the best debut album since... oooh, last week!" You can rely on them almost as much as you can rely on the second album being slagged off, no-one buying it, and the band drifting into irrelevance. But people, I am here to tell you that Kaiser Chiefs are genuinely something different. As a whole, the sound is so old, it's new! It's also a real mixed bag - there are elements of The Jam, XTC, glam rock, 80s electronic music, the list goes on. The first three tracks alone are probably worth the price of the album, and the sheer energy from a loud play of I Predict A Riot is probably enough to power your house for a few weeks! But I have request to make: PLEASE don't let this album get hyped up too much, go out, buy it, enjoy it, but don't push them up only to let them crash again - it happens far too much these days...

Every day i love amazon reviewers less and less
To be honest i do not go for hype so i never purchased this release when first on sale, then over a period of 6 months i have been hearing alot more of this band and snippets of their music here and there and basically i liked what i heard, and so i took the dive and purchased their cd (Employment)as a music collector of all genres for many years i know my music very well and to be honest this album is a damn good listen and smooth running and really quite well put together so fair play to the lads for that, i hear a few influences in their music, but thats no issue here.If you like a bit of retro and your music taste is open minded or you fell like something new or interesting this album is a good buy, on the first listen this album grabbed me.I don't understand the miserable gloom mongers who after listening to an album for 5 minutes then go on to make the most feeble excuse to give it gross butchering (although i know some album do deserve a butchering i.e manufactured bands) you sometimes (like a fine wine)have to give an album time (around 4 or5 months) as most of the time it grows on you slowly and you start to get into it.Good effort and a good listen, don't listen to the negative idiots they should keep to their boy bands, go on and buy it.

A cheesy but still very enjoyable post-punk album from Britain!
"Employment" is definitely a very cheesy album. Although that would usually hurt the rating, most of the songs are very good even if they are pretty silly. I don't think most people will like it even though "I Predict A Riot", especially, is very instantly catchy and memorable (later on I found out it was a hit in England). After "Born To Be A Dancer" things start to go a little downtown, but the rest isn't bad. Musically it sounds like late 70's/80's punk, or for a more recent comparison I suppose a cheesier Maxïmo Park. Post-punk fans might enjoy it, and open-minded listeners probably will too. Basically the album is worthy of a purchase if you're looking for some silly-but-fun punk songs. Not for everyone though. Recommended.Highlights include:"Every Day I Love You Less & Less""I Predict A Riot""Modern Way""Na Na Na Na Naa""You Can Have It All""Oh My God""Born To Be A Dancer"
