Intresting read for a collector and rebuilder

Many photos of Mamod Steam Engines are interesting but the text on restorations is repetitious and there are a few typographical errors which are annoying in any book. Although the book is not really well written (Green does not seem like an experienced author.) much work was put into the book and it is useful. I am sure that I will refer to the book many times.

A little simplistic for what I wanted,but was useful.I am a well versed Windows user and now trying a Macbook would have liked a little more than the real basics

Für den ambitionierten Amateur aber nicht mehr, dann die Informationen, die hier gegeben werden, bleiben falsch bis laienhaft. Messing mit Essig entkalken- NIEMALS. Wählen Sie eine Farbe, die so ähnlich aussieht, keiner merkt's- BLÖDSINN. Verchromten Stahl nicht schleifen, und wenn, dann so, dass man das Chrom nicht etnfernt- TOLLER TIP. Das ist für mich kein Buch, sondern klebegebundene Blätter aus dem Laserdrucker. Geht zurück.

Bel libro con istruzioni e manutenzione per modelli a vapore della Mamod. Una bella raccolta di foto di molti modelli costruiti dalla famosa e storica azienda inglese Mamod. Questa è la versione con foto in bianco e nero (economica). Esiste anche la versione con foto a colori.

I bought this after looking around the author's website. I used to play around with Mamod engines long before I had children of my own and from what I remember I screwed a few of them up good and proper trying to "fix" them. Anyways I recently was bought a Steam Wagon as a gift from a flea market, and with two of my kids still at home we thought we would bring the thing up to working order.The book is laid out very clearly and logically and in such a way that you can pick it up and delve in anywhere for interesting reading. I especially like the the more advanced technical information, which is often set in separate text boxes so you don't have to wade through them if you don't want to.The author has included a lot of information that helps you avoid un-necessary work whilst still achieving the end result.As I home-educate my younger children this book has become an invaluable addition to our learning library, but it is in no way just for juniors or beginners. I'm 50 years old, and this book has given me the confidence to get stuck in and enjoy restoring and running my new acquisition. Hopefully the book will sell enough to merit a colour version at some point.Buy it!
