Photos to inspire and inform
In what is typical from for David Larkin, this book will simultaneously inform and inspire. Through many good images, printed in a high quality format, we see much of the reality of British goods stock through the 1940s to 1960s. You will most likely find images of wagons in use that you imagined would have, or should have, been consigned to scrap by the date of the photo.Modellers should beware as many of the images will inspire yet another build or conversion to add to your stock collection.

Another excellent wagon reference book by Larkin
Although i recall this book being publicised prior to printing, a friend recently mentioned how useful it was.For anyone interested in British railway wagons from the 1950s onwards, this is a must for your bookshelves. The author is so able to explain complex histories of wagons through text and photographs.Highly recommended

A very complex subject
Got volume one when it came out it's very good. This is vol two and handles a complex subject very well.If nothing else it shows the diversity of wagons running on the Railway years ago.I have read criticism of the fact that there will be more volumes to cover even more variations but such a complex subject can't be covered easily and as far as I can judge the Author is passing on an awful lot of knowledge and photos not previously seen,so well done,I look forward to vol 3!John Wade.

Poor value for money
This is an expensive book and doesn't offer good value for money. The wagons are described in depth but the types covered are a tiny minority of acquired wagons. If future volumes are so specific, building up a collection will prove expensive. There are several editorial errors, including captions for the cover photos, and the binding is poor - the hard covers are warped which shouldn't be the case for a book of this price
